Layout is alright, every time I’ve played there though their greens have been rock hard. Played Delacour last week which always seems to be a go to course for me before mine opens
how were the greens at Delcour?
I really only play there early in the year so maybe all the brown doesn’t distinguish holes well but I feel like there’s 6 identical 440 par fours like that
They were pretty good shape for early April, seemed to have wintered well with no noticeable issues.
I was thinking Broadmoor this weekend as well. Need an extra or do you have a foursome already? I expect things will fill up fast.
Yeah, I like layouts like Watervalley, Delacour, D’Arcy etc for bang for buck - just no availability yet.
It’ll have to be next time @cav007, just two of us heading out but no room left in the slot.
Trying Strathmore this weekeend. Played it once before, thought it had some interesting holes, very walkable. Was super windy when i played, i imagine that this is normal out there.
Conditions at Blue Devil were perfect. Course is in outstanding condition.
Can confirm the layout is extremely repetitive and boring overall. No bad holes per se, but almost all forgettable.
Well we had an alberta golf round, from the beauty that was Friday to threatening snow Sunday.
Played Broadmoor, as expected all the fair weather golfers abandoned ship and the course was pleasantly vacant on arrival. Just the hardcores were there and maybe a dozen total. My buddy and I played with two youths who bailed out after 9. I’ve never seen so many juniors at a course so good on you sherwood park. Not a lie, I think juniors were 70% of the groups I saw all day.
Fun course, better and more interesting than I expected. Played the round in 3.5hrs and good conditions for early season.
I’ll be back.
Man I’ve not played there, but I gotta try it at some point. Totally not in the same area, but i played Coloniale a couple times years ago, and really liked the layout, wonder how others who’ve played there feel.
Forgot to take pictures, but playing Strathmore when we had 1 one day summer, and it was such a pleasant (and windy) walk. It’s pretty far, but well worth the drive. Played with wife and friends, and was a perfect course to take her to. Only really a couple of forced carries, but the wind makes it hard to judge distances, landing areas, but was perfect for her keeping ball in play and hittin low skimmers.
I haven’t played coloniale to compare it. The course was fun, it was short at about 6,400yds from the tips, but nearly all the par 3s played close to 200yds before the wind. Just a course where you needed to be in the right place to have a good approach, with enough water and tight enough landing areas to keep you thinking. The 3s felt long, and intimidating, when I play there again I’d probably play up on those to add some fun and put a shorter club in my hand.
I played cougar creek Monday with my little guy in tow. First 18 with my son and it was wonderful, just free play with my father in law and a 3yr old on a pretty wide open course for other players.
Dream conditions course load wise for me, no waiting, no chasers, no bs just play your game and enjoy the experience. Course was also in good shape, all the greens were sanded and punched, but no winter loss, fairways were looking healthy and good as usual out there.
The golf indoctrination plan is working out very well.
If any Calgary folk are keen to play, I have a tee time for Friday (lovely 22 degrees) for 4:00 at River Spirit. My buddy can now not go.
Let me know if you’re interested!
I can go if its still open.
You’re in!
Ooo let us know how the conditties are!
Our man Ben had to cancel. 4:00 at River Spirit today if anyone is interested let me know!
Forget the name of the 3s, but short par 4 down in the valley along the river. Good hole, lots of options off the tee! Hope i can swing in for next time!
Played whitetail crossing out in mundare with some friends Sunday. It was very windy as it always seems to be out there. 200 yd par 3 playing dead into a 2-3 club wind is all kinds of fun.
Most tee shots it didn’t matter what you hit if you hit it high it was dead. Different play was required. Greens were punched and sanded but rolling well enough despite it.
My buddy had his 6yr old daughter along for the round which kept things light for everyone as we fought the wind all round. Still thrilled to be out.
