Working through some drudgery of trying to encourage some buddies to golf trip this year. Tough haul it seems outside of the refuge for folks to green light trips, covid doesn’t help either.
I’ve setup a July 16-19th long weekend pass from my lovely wife who gave me the all important go sign. Not sure what will become of it at this point but plans ranged from Kamloops weekend, to tour of alberta (yes even you calgary) down and back from YEG. Mentally I want this so badly , but I’m weak on the golf crew front .
Not all is lost however as I hit some balls at a pretty fantastic indoor facility in Edmonton (cct golf center). Went #yotb and was stroking the beautiful mp33’s about as sweetly as I could. Gently fooling myself that the big right miss/wipey fade the nlu boys are so proud to rep is finally gone for me in 2021. My hopes are up and I’ll definitely be back there hitting balls again. My own pro-v ball worked nearly flawlessly with their uneeqor launch monitors (my 3w would not pickup at all for some reason but driver was fine?). Where you at @cav007
No groups but you can hit in adjacent bays. Family play is fine, seems you can do both driving range style or sim golf. It’s a good setup. Masks on of course but otherwise feels like hitting balls at the range. I just hit through the bag, and the launch monitors gave good info.
Yeah i’ll hit up CCT Golf Centre pre-COVID to visit family. Really good setup for the winter days.
They used to have SkyTrak launch monitors, but i guess its’ the Uneeqor ones now.
Honestly i love that they converted that building into the golf centre. I imagine that building sat empty for a long time.
The fellow there mentioned the skytraks and said they had lots of issues with them and only had good things to say about the new setup. Different $$ involved for each but the new ones worked fine for me except the 3w which never registered at full speed.
First round of 2021 is scheduled for Monday at redtail and I can’t wait. It’s a very rare year in my limited alberta life experience where I get to golf before the masters so I am taking advantage of it.
Hoping to get a few rounds in with some refugees this golf season, and grow the golf possee a bit as a result.
Got to get out for a round out in Langdon, east of Calgary, yesterday.
Nice and firm brown and fast!
Course has been re-branded as The Track. It’s not the highest-end of courses and I think in the past, it’s typically a bit of a slow round. Having said that, it’s very welcoming, decently priced, could use more dragonflies to eat up all the mosquitos in the summer. But super thankful for just being able to get out so early in the year!
Correct it’s redtail landing. Can’t really do a fair comparison as I don’t play there a lot as it’s not my favourite. Conditions were okay, it’s early obviously and the greens were punched and sanded pretty heavy.
The starter mentioned the tee sheets were packed and figured that was all cct cards.
I hit balls with my “development” team on the weekend before the blizzard. Will be getting back on the horse this weekend and will be trying out the broadmoor golf course this Sunday.
If this weekend is any indicator it is going to be really tough getting tee times this season.
With the good weather coming this week (and Masters induced spring golf fever) it was very difficult to secure a tee time. But managed to snag a single time Friday afternoon at Blue Devil in Calgary. First time I played it 4-5 years ago, I wasn’t too impressed with the layout. A lot of repetition in the left-right fairway bunkers in the landing zones, which is fine, but not as interesting as it could be. Wonder if my impression will change this time.
Naw same thing except they have been grassing over bunkers. Honestly, Calgary is a wasteland for reasonably priced quality golf. Your better off driving 20 min outside the city and playing some small town course.
