I’m pretty sure I was consuming and interacting with the NLU Twitter accounts by 2014 (2015 at latest). I watched an occasional video and listened to a pod every now and then but it wasn’t until COVID that I found out about the Refuge while being bored at home and perusing their website (which I had never interacted with). Super happy I found the Refuge. I unfortunately can’t help myself and definitely frequent high crime neighborhoods too much. But, outside of being dumb enough to go swirl down a few of those toilet-level threads, the Refuge has been a very positive experience for me. It certainly kept me interested in golf while going through job changes, injuries, and a general lack of desire to play the game. Credit to this place and all of you weirdos for helping this old guy learn to appreciate the game in a new way after decades of almost solely being locked in the competitive side of it.
@Cody you guys never circled back to your experience with the April fools trap draw, which was my favorite, and most shocking, part of the pod
I’m an echo but this was awesome. I had listened for a while, but had not watched any of the video content until I had my daughter in 2022. I pulled a Soly and was hopped up on emotions and cried during a Tourist Sauce episode. I can’t even remember which one, just that it had this heavier sounding guitar instrumental that was the perfect soundtrack to the boys. Great stuff!
NLU is the one thing I’m a true hipster for; I was a fan before it was cool. I truly remember the early Twitter pre-podcast days.
But I listened to the first epsidoes when it was Bacon / porter, etc. I had a long walk / subway commute in NJ and was ripping through podcasts and jumped at the chance to listen to a golf podcast cause there was none of them.
This was a fun trip down memory lane. Here’s to 10 more!
Found NLU by literally googling “golf podcasts” after becoming a bit disillusioned with football (soccer, to most of you guys) end of 2020/early 2021. Podcast hooked immediately followed swiftly by binging Tourist Sauce and Strapped. I only wish I’d discovered it sooner! St Rappeo is an all-time moment but more recently I’ve found some of the live shows properly laugh out loud funny.
Cheers for the #content and keep on keeping it light while the golf and wider world continues to go up in flames!
@Randy 's Rory eulogy is still one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard on NLU content. I think it was briefly referenced, but would have loved to hear it again.
I thought I would have trouble remembering a lot of the milestones they brought up but it was all so clear still. I remember finding the twitter account and when the pods came out it just felt so familiar to have guys my age talking about golf like I did with my friends. Really loved the look back and appreciate all the content yall have put out, some seriously timeless stuff.
Someone cut the audio from the pod and posted the audio clip to youtube, but no clue how easy it would be to find after all these years. I think I listened to that clip a dozen times the week after the tournament.
This and Randy reading off the names of players beaten by Tiger in the opening round of the 2022 Masters with backing eulogy music, are easy top five NLU podcast segments.
Absolutely loved this episode. Thank you to the NLU crew for going around and giving their insight on what these past ten years have been like for them. Through all the recollection of podcasts, Roost events, Tourist Sauce episodes, and twitter posts, I slowly recalled my own memories of first discovering No Laying Up and how much they have shaped my golf/social life for the positive. I won’t ever claim that I was an early adopter or finder of NLU but I remember Dufner winning The Memorial in 2017 and immediately finding Soly’s interview with him that weekend. (double checked, Episode #83). From that moment I was hooked. Caught up on every episode and listened to every new one from then on.
Thanks to their Tourist Sauce and Strapped series, I have truly enjoyed golf in more ways than just one single experience of going to a new course and taking a swing on the first tee. From the cinematography of the videos, down to the final edit, they’ve helped me reinvigorate my love for photography. More often than normal, you will most likely see me on the golf course holding my A7iii, than my PTX Pro iron.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Ireland, where my girlfriend at the time told me to bring the sticks along, as we would be staying in an AirBNB down the road from Lahinch. (I proposed to her on this trip, she said yes…my decision to ask her had NOTHING to do with her allowing me to play Lahinch, the proposal was planned before this knowledge haha).
If anyone from the crew reads this, I sincerely wanted to say thank you, for all content that the team puts out, to all planned future endeavors and successes. I’m sure I speak for everyone here when I say that a piece of NLU always travels with us to courses around the world, and we carry it with pride and care wherever we go.
Watching Neil on the Korda Hangout is like a Silicon Valley golf storyline.
I actually stumbled on NLU via the old witb videos in late 2020. Not sure how I ended up there. I had just started playing golf in May 2020 so I guess I was lurking YT for any content available and I’m a gearhead at heart. I was enamored by the grocery wars between tron and Randy because at the time I worked for a real estate company that owned grocery anchored shopping centers.(I’m team Kroger btw). That turned into listening to the podcasts and then that actually made me a fan of professional golf. #trapstoolie
just when I think it has played out, an old man taps me in a pro shop…
Old man: “You a minister?”
Me: yes, sir
Old man: “…saw you playing golf on TV”
Me: “I don’t think so”
Old man: Baton Rouge city park
Me: “oh yeah that was me”
Old man: grunts and smiles and walks away.
Ha!
One of my goals is to make it to Baton Rouge and play City Park with you.
Open invitation.
Just drove from Bathurst to Sydney in Australia - 3 hour drive accompanied beautifully by the 3hr 4min recap. Would love to hear from some of those players who were fans early on and why they were attracted to what NLU did!
Hey man it’s like already tomorrow there can I get some stock tips?

The lack of mention of the Club Pro Guy podcast episode was disappointing. I’m not ashamed to admit it’s how I came across the podcast.
@Randy 's line of “In lieu of flowers, we ask that you purchase a GolfPass subscription instead” is in my top 3 things ever said by NLU during the Rory eulogy
