wouldn’t be shocking to see some membership drives next year at a lot of places with how the coronavirus thing is playing out
Thank you, I’d definitely like to hear more! Looks like I can’t send DMs just yet though (only created my account today)
are PCC dues tiered? Better deals for younger folks?
Welcome greg, im 27 and live in center city…always looking for more people to play with
Very much so. Both initiation and monthly.
Completely forgot about Ace and Green Valley, which is bad since I pass them all the time. Ace looks really nice, although it seems like a really upscale corporate kind of thing. I’ll have to look into the others
Just for reference: at your age PCC would be $2000 down, $2000 due within a year, and $100/month for 10 years to cover initiation (or $12,500 upfront). Your monthly dues would be $384/mo until you get full golf privileges (within a year) and go to $427 after that.
That’s for younger people. It’s significantly more expensive if you’re older. I’m not intending to market Cricket, nor saying they are adding membership in this age range. Just posting the numbers I know.
Grew up outside of Philly, lived in Manayunk for a couple years while I was in med school - on Leverington and Silverwood. IMO, best cheesesteaks are at Larry’s.
Another private nearby would be Rolling Green - a straight shot down Rte 1/City Line. Tom Coyne grew up playing there I think.
Llanarch, Overbrook, and Radnor Valley could be options as well.
Good luck!!
Good suggestions, I always think go north so don’t have to cross the river when thinking about Manayunk, but Philly Country Club in Gladwyne is probably 15 minutes away. Not sure they have junior membership programs, but I always liked that course. And then on the Uber-exclusive front, Gulph Mills might even be 10 minutes away! Llanerch is a hidden gem and Rolling Green is fantastic, just Route 1 is always a disaster to me
Thanks for the info, that’s really helpful! Looking around at some other threads I’d been led to believe it was cheaper (in the $4k-$5k range) but that always seemed a little low for such a prestigious club.
Rolling Green looks great but it’s even farther out on Route 1 than Cobb’s Creek, and that’s kind of what I’m trying to improve on. Getting out that way is a real hassle at 5:00.
Welcome! I’m not too far from you, currently in Plymouth Meeting. I’ve been looking for people to play with since I moved here.
McCall would be another option though you still have to contend with Route 1.
I wish I knew the numbers for Whitemarsh, that seems like it’d be a pretty cool club.
I believe you would also be a golf in waiting member meaning there would be some restrictions on when you can play Wissahickon etc. until a full membership opens up. In addition the course is always walking so you would require a caddie before 3PM.
Whitemarsh would be a good option and they recently completed a renovation a few years ago to the course. I might also throw in Huntingdon Valley which has attractive pricing for under 30’s but a bit further away from Manayunk.
Golf in waiting really only keeps you from playing prior to lunchtime Saturdays. Not a huge deal if you ask me.
Well, I now have a list of 18 places to check into, which is somehow both exciting and intimidating. Now to wait until I can actually play golf again…
Anyone want to play tomorrow or Monday? Can’t seem to book as a single and normal crew can’t swing it
Where are you thinking of playing?
Pretty flexible but I’m close to Paxon hollow and glen mills
