Try out Avalon or Stone Harbor!
Best in South Jersey in my opinion.

GAP Team Match Schedules were just released for those who are playing
oh man, i hope i make the A squad this year for my club were flighted with philly cricket
philly crickets D squad haha
haha they only have like 6 teams (which is wild)
how many members do they have? We struggle to fill 2 i cant even imagine getting enough for 6
not sure but they 100% dont hurt for money or members (god i love PCC) their 2nd, i repeat 2nd, team almost won the whole thing last year
Philly Cricket as a whole has 1500 members, I don’t know how many Full Golf or Golf in Waiting they have. I could find out.
this article was a cool read
I played there right before the Union League took over. I’d love to get a look at that place now.
once summer rolls around ill be able to get some refuges out there. I walked around there late fall and progress has just been superb
Its a shame that they let it go before U.L took over, the bunkers were horrible. Did they make a lot of changes to the routing or not so much?
that would be awesome the work they have been doing down there seem phenomenal and every photo i have seen has wowed me
I had not played sand barrens for 5+ years before so honestly dont remember much. I believe the original idea was to just make the original routing better with some new bunkers/better green complexes. That being said in the summer the whole sherman (south) nine was gutted to its bones and was basically just sand, so i imagine a few holes will be pretty different. They added some new ponds/water features as well.
@Craigstands it photographs damn well thats for sure
I’m at Wilmington CC. Our team 2 has McCall, Talamore, Hershey’s Mill and team 3 has Aronimink (!!), Applecross and French Creek.
Fingers crossed i can find a way into the lineup at Aronimink.
Can’t believe section 19 for Division D – Kennett Square, Biderman, Merion and Stonewall. Stacked group there.
A friend is a Union League member and has a place at the shore. He was also recently on site checking out the work. he was shocked at how much earth they’re moving. he said it is going to look awesome, but he believes they are making it way too hard for a vacation course. He is nervous about 5 hour rounds on Saturday morning, with guys who know how to play fast
I played Sand Barrens a number of times in the years leading up to the closing. It was always a fun course to play.
I was able to sneak on with a family friend last May to and played the Grant and Meade courses. It is unbelievable! It’s so pristine - definitely a little difficult if you can’t find the fairway. Routing on those courses was slightly different than previously but the conditions are awesome.
Hey guys, I’m 26 and currently living in Manayunk and I don’t really have any friends who play golf here - Would love to tee it up with some of the Refuge members sometime after this lockdown ends.
Also, on the private club discussion - I’m looking into options for next year and it looks like the only ones within a 20-30 minute drive of where I live are Bala, Philly Cricket, Whitemarsh Valley and Sunnybrook. Philly Cricket would be a dream come true but I don’t know how realistic that is in terms of price and “will they actually let me join.” Does anyone have any info on any of those courses?
I know the prices for PCC, and I also know someone on the membership committee. If you’re interested, shoot me a DM and I’ll give you the details.
I think there are more options within 30 minutes of Manayunk. LuLu, 1912/Plymouth, Green Valley, Shady Run, Ace, Manny’s, Squires are all probably accessible. Some are just as hard to get in as PCC, but others should be pretty easy. I am probably missing some names as well.
