My neighbor and fellow Philly Cricket member is trying to raise money for his son’s hockey program, the Junior Flyers. He is willing to host some people at Philadelphia Cricket Club - Wissahickon this coming Thursday at 12:30 pm. It’s going to be sunny and 61° that day. For a $200 donation you can play Wissahickon. The guest fee is normally $182 and knowing my neighbor you’ll more than make up the extra $18 with a few drinks. Let me know if you’re interested, I may go out too if there is enough interest.
As an aside we are having our end of season sale and everything will be 35% off in the shop that day.
Possibly trying to run out another foursome. The other host has a few guys he’s waiting to hear from. The first foursome (filled) is at 1230, there’s a 1245, but it’s a member only time that I can’t grab until two days before and can’t add guests to until the day before. I’d be the host in the second group, but you’d still be paying my neighbor. I’ll post here if there’s anything available in that second group.
Sunny and 61° in November is too nice to be bothered with work.
We have the 1230 tee time. I am grabbing the 1245 (15 minute tee time intervals is so nice), so we’d have back to back times.
Caddies are usually required, but after Nov 1 so many of them go down south that walking is allowed. Push carts are available at no charge. If you want a caddy ($80-100) we can get you one.
4 of the 6 have emailed me, the other two @barnabyjones and the last guy should email me too at emailswade@gmail.com so I can either get mobile numbers or email addresses and can fire off a group text/email.
@PhillyTheKid I think all the spots are filled, but if anyone doesn’t come, I’ll link you in.
Anybody gotten eyes on Cobbs Creek lately? Interested in how it’s coming along but I’m not local anymore. I think we just passed the 3 year mark of it being closed.
I think that was supposed to be the first thing done too thanks for the intel. Was just up for a work function at the Eagles Cowboys game the other weekend and would’ve loved to be able to hit Cobbs for old times sake. Got up to Mountain View with my brother instead which still scratched the nostalgia itch but used to beat up Karakung and the Old when I first started playing all the time. Could do the drive north from Fairmount to Girard and west out to Cobbs in my sleep.
I love reading the first page of this thread where I talk about moving to Philly and asking about public golf and about the Cricket Club and fast forward to today and just had 6 guys out to the Cricket Club for a delightful day. I may lament that end of (my) golden age of the Refuge, but I’ve still never met someone from here I wouldn’t tee it up with again.
(Full disclosure, I never met Mark Reyes/Bernal. He wouldn’t make the cut)
