Heard that as well. I kind of understand why trump courses would host, but why would a member owned club with no need for cash a robust wait list agree to host an event for an outlaw tour sponsored by the saudis? What positive for them would come from it?
The only thought I had was that they tried for Pine Valley who said no way. But still, there are plenty of courses on the east coast that aren’t affiliated with the PGA that would bring much more luster to the event.
I think Philly cricket would bring plenty of luster, I just don’t understand why Philly Cricket would gain from it right now
Haven’t listened yet, but this certainly fills out my bingo card for things I did not expect this week. And it’s only Monday. Hot damn.
This was the first pod where it felt way too real. DJ signing and then coming to Philly cricket as early as June.
Yeah I’m baffled by that as well. I wonder how united the membership is behind it? There has to be a section of the membership who don’t want the stink of MBS and the Saudi’s gross sportswashed money on them.
The Trump courses make total sense but I wouldn’t have expected this from Cricket.
Hey all! My wife just got in Penn for a PhD program starting this fall. I’m from the Kentucky/South Carolina and never played golf in the area. Was wondering what my golf options would be and where I should be looking to play while we’re Philly residents? I know some of the big named private clubs, but don’t have a clue what public golf’s like in the area.
Welcome to the area!! So it sounds like you’ll be coming up this way in the fall or are you moving before then? Either way, I’ll be running the Southeastern PA/NJ/DE Roost and we’re more than welcome to have you if you’d like to get involved.
The basic premise is that we’re working towards fostering more meet-ups with individuals from the Nest and Refuge as part of a season-long competitive series. We’re largely focused on highlighting great public courses in the area, but we can definitely steer you in the right direction within this thread!
I’m coming from Maryland. Technically in the DC Area Roost, seems like a clusterfuck so far. Haha. Are you allowed to have multiple allegiances? But yeah, we’d come up sometime in the fall whenever her program starts. I’ll definitely be interested in Fall meetups and events for sure, as well as any suggestions on where to play/practice in the area before it gets too cold.
Yeah, for sure. If you were to compete for the Roost Nationals, you’d have to declare allegiance to one Roost but you can certainly participate all over the place if you happen to be traveling between areas.
Otherwise, given the region’s knack for ever-fluctuating temperatures, I’m planning on having a wrap-around season once this year’s season finishes up in September so we can have a few events before we hit the winter hibernation months!
Hey guys not from around Philly. If you were to be going to a work thing outside of Philly in Newtown for 4 days but would probably be going into Philly after the conference gets done where would you stay? Also flying in and out of Philly. Also any good Recs for the area to do in May would be awesome too! Thank you!
If you can sneak a round in while in the Newtown area, Makefield Highlands is a fun links style, probably 5-10 from Newtown.
Philly:
Reading Terminal
Independence Hall
I’d say a Phillies game but looks like wont have baseball by then
Old City/Center City for bars/restaurants
Pretty walkable city so you can cover a lot in just a few days.
What kind of food do you like? I can give you some city restaurants to check out if you’re interested.
Would you say it’s better to stay outside of Philly in between Newtown and there if I have to travel to Newtown everyday for 3 of the days I’m there or in Philly?
I’m a fan of all food I don’t discriminate
Philly is about 35 mins from Newtown, you can 95 all the way into the city. Its honestly preference, If you are going to be doing full days it will be easier to stay in Newtown, if its shorter days and you can salvage the remainder of the day it maybe worth it to stay in philly. No real in between area that would be worth staying at.
As far as restaurants in the city that I have enjoyed:
Dandelion (English Pub Style)
Local Whiskey (Good Whiskey/Burgers)
Independence Beer Garden (bit of a tourist trap but its outdoors next to Independence Hall/Liberty Bell)
Butcher & Singer (Steakhouse)
Liberty Point (Opens in April, but its going to be the largest outdoor bar in Philadelphia to date)
EDIT**
Sorry was working on a presentation and didnt finish the thoughts:
If you are going to be doing full days it will be easier to stay in newtown, if its shorter days and you can salvage the remainder of the day it maybe worth it to stay in philly
Awesome thank you!
Not sure how well known this is, but a PGA Tour Superstore is opening up in Plymouth Meeting on 4/2. When I lived elsewhere and a new store opened up, they had a bunch of opening day deals and give aways for those that camped out. Just an FYI, use as you will.
I don’t follow the refuge as much as I should, so I apologize if I’m in the wrong spot. Has there been any updates on the Philadelphia Roost. As in, are there any events planned for this year? Please point me in the right direction if there are, thank you!
