Phil’s Clubs

I’m confused as to why someone would go to the trouble of using two different types of bread for the top and bottom. I’m both confused and intrigued, actually.

It was actually really good. My first instinct was that they gave me the wrong sandwich. The marbled rye and sourdough complimented each other nicely.

I got your back. Been wanting to check out this joint and can snag a pic soon of the “sandwich” in question. I stand by aioli just being European for Mayo so I typically let this slide although bonus points will always be awarded for use of the word Mayo at a “hip” restaurant.

Great to hear. Hope you have a good experience like we did. Wine/beer list was solid. Was bummed when Cheesemonger’s Table closed but this place replacing it has potential. Apparently the same owners as Kelnero.

No go on the super fancy bread on a club. Yes it sounds like a good sandwich, but definitely NOT a club. I’m a little confused on how they or your wife can justify gracing this sandwich with the honor of “Club”

Gamble Sands Club Sandwich Review

After a 5 hour and 40 minute round of golf in 90+ degree weather I was ready for a filling meal that wasn’t heavy. Settled on the club and it was a great choice.

3 pieces of perfectly toasted sourdough bread :white_check_mark:
Turkey :white_check_mark:
Bacon :white_check_mark:
Cheese :white_check_mark:
Lettuce :white_check_mark:
Tomato :white_check_mark: (but I got it without because tomatoes are not my jam)

Toothpicks and cut into triangles to finish it off :white_check_mark:

Beautiful picture with the MEGA Light :white_check_mark::white_check_mark::white_check_mark:

I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention the fan-frickin-tastic fries. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Could’ve eaten 2lbs of them.

Fries - 9.8/10
Club - 8.5 (would’ve preferred swiss or cheddar cheese vs the provolone)

You have no idea how happy I am to learn GS has a wonderful club.

Here it is in ALL it’s glory. My personal favorite in the OP rota, Gold Mountains “California” Club.

Before we get into the rating which I will rate fairly based on basic guidelines. This is does not have three slices or white bread. But, it’s so good.

This beautiful sandwich is made is wheat bread and with an avocado spread. All the other boxes are check for a club sandwich. But due to the few mods and short coming of a third piece I do rate this at a 6.2 out of 10 Phil’s. Definitely recommend this sandwich.

That’s just a fancy BLT. Does not get membership into the club.

A BLAT, actually (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato).

Well is we’re knit picking. There’s turkey and pepper jack cheese also.

I see… yeah not sure what that is but it’s not a Club.

FYI, I’ve told my wife about The Refuge and in most cases she just nods. Told her about this thread and when I explained that it was literally about club sandwiches she started giggling a LOT. I think she may finally understand the madness of this place now.

Agree. They had it listed as one. I notified them that it was NOT technically a club.

Tell her welcome to the group lol

2nd entry here: this is the Clubhouse Sandwich at White Horse Golf Club in Kingston, WA. This club was $14 and consists of turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, swiss, and cheddar cheeses with a side of garlic parmesan fries. It was alright, but definitely worse than my previous club submission. It was on the smaller side; basically a regular loaf of bread size, which was disappointing. The swiss was also an interesting taste this time. It was kind of creamy. No frilly toothpicks, but rather the toothpicks with the curly Q top. It’s gonna be a 4.7 from me (shout out to Rusty Ranks Beers).

For my previous entry (re-shared below), now that I’ve had a 2nd club to compare it with, I’m going to retroactively grade it as a 6.8. Not quite #nice, but good enough. And I reserve the right to adjust my grading at a later date based on more data entries AKA sandwiches consumed.

C-Suite Club review. Had the honor to play the site of the 1998 PGA Championship (Vijay Singh), the 2016 Women’s KPMG PGA championship (Brooke Henderson), and THE Sahalee Players Championship. The iconic Sahalee Country Club and the course definitely exceeded expectations.

When you have the privilege to dine in a fine establishment such as Sahalee you obviously need to see how their club game is, and this also did not disappoint. This beauty came out in four perfect triangles, three slices of perfectly toasted (not cheese grind your mouth) white bread, and a full inch thick of turkey. This thing had the texture and flavor mix dialed. I really wanted to give this a perfect score based on my initial impression, but I had to do some reflecting. In order to protect the field and the fact that they didn’t have tots for a side I knocked it down a few. BUT, the club house it’s self was top notch and deserves to be recognized.

So, I gave this a 8.6 out of 10 Phil’s. We have to protect the integrity here.

Picture below is post carnage.

Back from the dead? Yes, that’s right. Even in the dead of winter you can still get a Club club review!

Today I was fortunate enough to be invited to a meeting at NCR and because of this very thread I ordered the club sandwich (without lettuce cause I’m a heathen).

The bread itself was decent. As you can see in the photo it as a light toast to it. BUT the slice was a bit thick and the crust had seeds on it. IMO this inclusion of extra seeds on the crust knocks a bit off the score.

The meat ratios as well as the quality of the turkey, ham, and bacon were spot on. Each component in the meat portion was a huge hit and the meats were piled high enough I could barely fit a bite in my mouth.

Cheese was a classic Swiss. Nothing to write home about, but noting to take points away for either.

The tomato was also very fresh and juicy. And the mayo was not overpowering, nor did I feel like it was missing. A perfect classic mayo which is what you want to see on these sandwiches.

Let me also mention the fries. Perfectly seasoned, yet honestly maybe slightly under cooked. Though this may be because the kitchen had to cook for 30 people all at once.

Overall? I think I’d give this one a solid 8.5/10. 1 point for the bread trying a bit to hard to steal the show and half a point off for the fries.

you guys, this thread is excellent. i am genuinely embarrassed that i missed it last year, but i will atone for my sins this season. as i mentioned in another thread, i firmly believe that every club has a duty to serve a club sandwich worth ordering. there will be a review of my club’s “club sandwich” once the kitchen is open again.

I am very upset after JUST finding out about this thread. Club sandwiches will be big on the agenda this year for me.
