And the rating??
Rating: good enough for the Olympic Prolific in 2021
Pacific Grill - Pacific Dunes. The Ciabatta Club - honestly I think there should have been more emphasis on the club part of the sandwich instead of the ciabatta. If this was a group that rated ciabatta I would probably give it a 7/10, but we’re not and for that reason I’m giving it a 55/100. Points earned on atmosphere and the creativity used in the chipotle mayo. Main takeaways - needed more sauce, ciabatta no matter how tasty cannot support a club, the lettuce and tomato were uninspired, and you don’t need one toothpick for a sandwich that is not sliced. For what it is worth, I ate all of it, but had a subtle feeling of disappointment. Bandon wins a lot, but not on this one. He has spoken. Hit that like button for my Bandon cookie power rankings
@Patrick pastrami on hoagie at sheep ranch… you were right.
Club at the home club: checks most of the boxes. They serve it with cheese as stock, which is a problem. Otherwise it’s pretty typical.
They also fuck it up with the choice of white/wheat/sourdough/rye. Obviously, white is the only way to go.
Could use more meat, but the bacon amount is solid.
Fries are super crunchy, which adds points, IMO.
7/10
Frilly toothpicks, which makes it official.
I only have a vague understanding of what’s happening in this thread but the fact that it isn’t called Phil’s Clubs Championship seems like a collective missed opportunity.
My dude @Slim coming in with a solid review. 7/10 still high
It was frustrating to have to go through 72 posts to get to one picture of a Club Sandwich. I don’t (as they say) “read this thread for the articles” Keep 'em coming.
Anyone else have a pavlovian response when they heard Wright Thompson mention “Durkees on every table in the Augusta Clubhouse”? (maybe that was not on his interview with NLU, but I heard it somewhere). and don’t hear me saying you need Durkees on a Club, I am just saying, “I like sandwiches” and it felt like it fit this thread
We’re back after a month off! Huge treat getting back to the controversial OP stop The Home Course. This one checked all the boxes. Thick cut bacon, chipotle mayo and an unidentifiable cheese we’ll call a tame pepper jack. Structurally speaking, impeccable layering and tight lines on the cuts. Paired with a Tacoma Corona it doesn’t get much better. Maybe a little more Mayo gets it all the way there, but let’s go 8.6/10.
We had quite possibly the most classic clubhouse on a muni clubhouse patio today after 18. Absolutely nothing about it was special and that’s what made it great.
Exactly what a clubhouse should be
Meadow Park one of my all time Muni’s. You may recognize it from such works as “A Course Called Ameria” by the great @TomCoyne.
The patio is absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed this club sandwich after a enjoyable nine holes with my Dad while we watched my son at The First Tee’s summer camp.
Sandwich was everything you’d expect and nothing more. Perfect toasted all the regular members of the club were present and the sun was shining.
6.8 on the Phil Scale
Any time tots are an option, overall grade goes up for me
Damn they did not skimp on the tots! Well done.
Coincidentally the best way to order tots as well.
If you really want to earn the job of @Soly’s stunt double, we’re going to need to see some more blue in the shirt.
I had a delightful Club sandwich at The Home Course outside of Seattle yesterday. Forgot to take a photo, but what set it apart was using Sriracha mayo and thick applewood bacon. Rating: 8.0/10.0
But the real star was the onion rings. I think they used panko. They just might be the best onion rings I’ve ever had, and I do NOT say that lightly. I think good onion rings are the G.O.A.T. of sides for burgers and sandwiches and these were LEGENDARY. Wish I’d known this thread existed as I would have photo documented them before inhaling the entire plate. Rating: 11.0/10.0
Sheesh, I just realized @Phillip360 rated The Home Course club as his #1 in the top of this thread! What a world!
Your contribution and take on already reviewed sandwiches are welcome!
Had a bit of a contentious discussion at dinner with my wife tonight about the true definition of a club sandwich. I ordered a “Chicken Club” sandwich.
This sandwich, I will say, was delicious and I would recommend it. But do note, I called it a sandwich and not a club. This thread has correctly established that a true club sandwich has three slices of bread and should be of the whitish varietal, whether it be white bread or sourdough. Firstly, the main prerequisite of three slices of bread being present was not met. Only two slices of bread existed on my sandwich. Strike one. Furthermore, the top slice of bread was marbled rye and the bottom slice of bread was sourdough. Strike two. Finally, there was not mayonnaise but rather a tomato aioli. Strike three.
I emphatically stated that calling this particular sandwich a club was an affront to all of my most precious sensibilities. My wife said all a club sandwich needs is toasted bread, a meat (any meat!), bacon, lettuce and tomato. I was appalled. Obviously she is as wrong as the restaurant we dined at.
I come to you, fellow club enthusiasts, not for affirmation but as a place to vent my frustrations with the layperson and their gross misunderstanding of the elements and function of a proper club sandwich.
Finally, I do not have a picture of the aforementioned sandwich to post because it is not a club. I will however provide my rankings because well, I’ve come to this thread at 9:00 at night and I might as well.
Establishment: Vinbero - Edmonds, WA
Sandwich Ranking - 8.25/10 - Truly one of the strongest sandwiches I’ve had this year. All the elements of a good sandwich were there. Quality meat and cheese, fresh produce, fresh bread toasted to an appropriate level.
Club Rating - 0/10 - NOT A CLUB SANDWICH
Man, what is your wife’s deal?!
I remain shook, even after having a night to sleep on it.
