NLU Content Idea? (+ Favorite College Town GC's)

Both Men’s and Women’s golf teams are hosted by Inverness, but they already played/filmed that prior to the Solheim Cup a few years ago.

Only public golf possibly worth this type of endeavor would be Ottawa Park; decent bit of history to it, and is a par 71 that plays less than 5100 from the tips.

Going to be playing all the Indiana campus courses this year (with any luck at Culver), another project I’d like to do is all the Big Ten campus courses. Fortunatley I don’t think any of the schools from the Pac 12 have on-campus courses.

Man, we literally had this exact idea in our planning meeting at the beginning of the year. I still think it’s possible and that we’ll try to do it at some point, but there were more moving parts than we wanted: Ideally we would play with a student or student-athlete and try to do some other stuff on campus to bring it to life…Then we were thinking about how that meant it probably needed to be when school is in session… which wiped out the summer and limited the time of year/locations and just generally made things much more complicated with students’ class schedules, trying to avoid weekend travel, etc.

Still confident it will happen but some things we need to figure out. Good affirmation seeing that there’s interest in the idea though!

By group here in Wisconsin is begging me to take them on a golf/SEC football boondoggle to Athens. The UGA course is great.

Great to hear and totally understand the logistical nightmare this could(will?) be.

Just glad it’s in the parking lot of ideas you all have!

Hard to beat a fall weekend golf/football trip.

Friday golf, Saturday AM golf and PM football, Sunday golf.

Usually best done when it’s Labor Day weekend and you can recover on Monday.

A smaller scale option could be to go to something involving everyone’s alma mater. I know Tron, Randy, and Soly would all be taken care of with Miami. But go to a Columbia game for Neil, sorry no football for DJ at Bradley but maybe do Wisconsin with him in Milwaukee now? Take a trip to Montana for KVV. Get Ben, Casey, and Cody involved too and it could be a fun series that everyone can have a little piece of their own nostalgia. Again this is a logistical nightmare, but another twist that I think would be fun.

No mention of Yale yet?

Woah this is a take I haven’t heard before. I like Ackerman but absolutely loved Kampen. It’s been a few years though so maybe I just need to get back over there!

Yeah I’m not sure what it was. AA felt like a challenge without being tricked up and the walk was more pleasant (Kampen had some longer gaps btwn holes). There is a ton to like about Kampen and some good half par holes, just IMO if I’m splitting 10 rounds, I’m prolly going 6-4 AA.

EMU has its own university golf course called Eagle Crest that is fairly good with a few very good holes. Not saying they couldn’t parlay, but if you just take this idea at face value, they should play the course for the actual school in question.

Brookside being in the literal shadow of the Rose Bowl probably counts in spirit

If only it were anywhere close to campus…

Lots of chatter about Indiana schools, and my alma mater (and D3 basketball national champs!) Trine University has a quirky on campus course that’s still kind of fun.

NLU already played UMGC. Here’s an itinerary with no repeats:

  1. Eagle Crest
  2. Washtenaw GC (NAIA school plays a tournament there, so counting it as a college course)
  3. Finale - Radrick Farms

So, you guys could do all of that, which sounds like a logistical nightmare…

Or, just bring the gang back to Oxford and do the first season of a new series about golf in college towns. Play Indian Ridge, Hueston Woods, and maybe head over to Brookville lake and play Harbor Links to cap it off.

Further seasons could include Buck Tech, a re-visit to Ann Arbor and the site of Soly’s almost-Ames, Auburn-Opelika for some RTJ Trail action… you name it.

Yes, I’m the same guy that’s been beating this dead horse for a while now, but you never know - if you beat a dead horse enough, it might come back to life :person_shrugging:

Clemson has amazing greens. I also heard that Furman has a great course, they had an event the weekend I was down for work so I did not get to play it.

I am on this same mission. I do not recognize the west coast schools as a part of the Big Ten, so there are only 14 on my list. Currently at 5 of 14.

Don’t believe any of them have on-campus courses, anyway.

Rutgers and Maryland are going to be the hardest for me, given that my son no longer lives in Philadelphia.
