Just coming across this thread and freaking love it. So much that we wanted to share our interactive map of college golf courses (and practice facilities)! Hope it helps you plan a trip or find a campus course you never knew existed! Link> www.golfcrusade.com/post/college-golf
Late to the thread here but have the following, all of which I’ve either played or walked / spectated at:
Yale design is goated
Purdue’s courses are among the most pristine facilities I’ve ever seen
The Raleigh Durham triangle (Finley, Poole, Duke)
Virginia Tech River Course
Taconic (Williams College)
Had a similar idea to the theme here when I was visiting West Lafayette a bit ago; thinking of bringing my sticks with my to any college town and trying to knock off as many of these facilities as I could. Think it would be a blast to work the NLU guys get into them!
I will continue the slurping of my home state of Indiana. It punches far above its weight with regard to collegiate courses.
True college towns:
Notre Dame/South Bend: Warren
Purdue/West Lafayette: Ackerman-Allen, Kampen-Crosler
Ball State/Muncie: Delaware Country Club
IU/Bloomington: Pfau
School sponsored events at other courses:
IUPUI, Butler/Indianapolis: The Brickyard, Highland Country Club
UE, USI, ISU, random Big Ten tournament/half of southern Indiana: French Lick Dye, Victoria National, Chariot Run
Haven’t played the entire list but Pfau, both Purdue courses, and Warren are a hard trio to top.
What about Northern Iowa in cedar falls?
Couldn’t find anything on them online having a facility. Trust us, we looked. Pheasant Ridge is their home course but isn’t owned by the university. There is a hitting building on the range there that has the look of a team facility, so if you have any photos or info to confirm that building belongs to UNI, we’ll add it to the map.
I live in Cedar Falls, I will get to the bottom of this because now I’m interested.
I’m not sure that the golf team actually has a team specific training center now that I think about it. I think they just use the facilities at Pheasant Ridge.
5 Campus Courses ranked in the top 14, last time the list was published. Hard to beat that, anywhere. Going to play Warren tomorrow in a seniors event, just have to get Culver.
Michigan State:
- Forest Akers West & East (On Campus)
- Eagle Eye (Men’s golf team home course)
- College Fields
Agree on the Hoosier State excelling in the college golf course department. All might be surprised to learn Indiana is tied for third in the “most colleges with their own golf courses” category (6: Notre Dame (2 courses), Purdue (2 courses), IU, Trine, DePauw, Goshen College).
If we missed one or two, please let us know about it!
Number of Colleges with Golf Courses by State
9 - Michigan, New York
7 - North Carolina
6 - South Carolina, Indiana, Georgia, Texas
5 - Alabama, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi
4 - MA, MD, FL, IA, OH, NM
3 - PA, LA, MO, CO, IL
2 - CT, NJ, KS, MT, OK, WI, WA, CA
1 - AR, MN, ND, ID, VT, WY, AZ, OR (BC & ON in Canada)
0 - RI, ME, NH, DE, WV, SD, NE, UT, NV, AK, HI
Let’s make that tied for second. Just realized today that you don’t have this one- the school took over the course in 2018 or so.

And of course, some of the rankings go by “campus” instead of “college”, thus bringing Culver Academy in to play!
Oh hell yea! Love it! We chose not to do say “campus” because so many of the college courses are very off campus (VT River course is about 15 miles from campus for example).
We have toyed adding a scholastic category if we could find at least 10. Culver plays there, as does The Peddie School & Lawrenceville (both NJ), IMG Academy (FL) and Shaker Road School (NH). Find us 5 more!! Thanks for adding Indiana Tech!
I came up with 10 for Michigan off the top of my head (I have a lot of Michigan courses up there):
- University of Michigan GC
- Radrick Farms (Michigan)
- Forest Akers East (Michigan State)
- Forest Akers West (Michigan State)
- Katke Cousins (Oakland U.)
- R & S Sharf (Oakland U.)
- Katke GC (Ferris St.)
- Meadows GC at Grand Valley
- NMU GC (Northern Michigan)
- Eagle Crest (Eastern Michigan)
I thought this was the case, but I confirmed that UNI doesn’t own any of the buildings at the course in Cedar Falls
Even though it’s only 9 holes, the Ohio University golf course is one of my favorites. The golf teams train at Athens country club I believe.
Late response, but would love to see the boys back in Oxford. I’m a Miami alum as well and a IR,Hueston, Harbor Links would be soooo good.
