Scorecard? Listen, our next lesson is on “App Management.” But keep the money you didn’t earn. You’re a lawyer, you’re used to it.

And @MrVinegar206, please illuminate us on your “take” about a derby filled with people shooting 90-something making the finals…Go on.

It’s not that complicated, @Lazstradamus. A scratch player’s quota is 36. That means his baseline score to hit the quota is 18 pars. When he shoots slightly (one stroke) worse than his average score, he still gets 1 point. But when he shoots slightly better than his typical score, he gets 2 additional points. An 18 handicap’s quota is 18. So his baseline score needs is 18 bogeys. When he does slightly worse than his average, he gets nothing. When he does better, he only gets 1 additional point. The game strongly favors better players who make way more birdies. (Not to mention the absurd bonus for eagles.)

I got to share a cart with @NightTrainLane during that noteworthy stretch. He processes things verbally. Exclusively verbally. So it was entertaining to witness firsthand. Was happy to see him comeback from the wilderness and find 5 pars and two birdies (if memory serves)

Let me spell this out clearly for you since it’ll never happen in your life.

Let’s say you’re 240 yards out, hard cross wind. Water left, water over the green. None of those hazards enter your mind, @anon47037505, because you simply cannot cut a little 3 wood to 40 feet and two-putt for birdie. It’s not part of your arsenal. Instead, you hit 9-wood, maybe 110 yard PW to 40 feet and 2 putt for par (2 points) or more likely, 9-wood, wedge, chip, 2 putts, bogey (1 point.) But the player who can execute that 3-wood shot, almost has to go for it because the masses getting 18 shots are tough to catch.

Stableford is a game that favors birdies and eagles. In a game like Tilt, net birdies can pile on quick with high caps. But in quota, there aren’t net birdies. It’s all gross scores.

When I was explaining this to @bmasters (I think?), I asked him the last time he made a gross eagle. (If it was Ben) He said “NEVER.”

He won’t be making a mega-push like @MerchCzar did in the third round. It’s not like the quota has an estimate for how many birdies or eagles a low cap might make.

You do 4 points better in quota shooting +18 with 4 (gross) birdies, 14 bogeys, and 4 doubles than 18 bogeys

In other words, it’s like playing with Robin Williams during a coke binge.

Still looking for the Strokes Gained on quota points stat in the torrential downpour that occurred.

@Lazstradamus, you shot an average of about a 14 differential in each round. If you start entering all your scores instead of hanging on to the idea you’re a 5 handicap, you won’t have to worry about trying to make those shots either.

My pars in that stretch should’ve been worth more fur shure

I keep an index, I play in tournaments, and I play for stakes. My index has never been questioned in my life.

Trying? I’m describing the shot on 13 on my first round, except it was 260 out, from the trees on the left, bare lie on the sand and it ended up just off the green.

If you knew shit about real golf and how indexes work, you’d know it’s more about how it gets to 5.5 or whatever it is.

Go count how many birdies and eagles your eight finalists made, @MrVinegar206
