Music Suggestions 2 - driving fast in my car

We had absolutely no problem with Beauty School Dropout (who ended up opening and were absolutely fucking amazing) and Blink though when both of those bands were on. I seriously just felt like whoever they had setting up their shows either had no idea what they were doing or they were looking for a different sound than what you hear on the record.

What the fuck? Did I write this?!

I am notorious for intentionally ignoring stuff people love and then checking it out years later once it isn’t cool anymore and loving it then :joy:

This song is not really a representation of most of their music, but this song slaps and I can’t get enough of it

Boy, that new Propagandhi record is fucking BORING. My word.

Only gave it one spin, but yikes.

I had been feeling the same. Hope it’s a bit of a grower but definitely not bringing the energy.

The title track set the bar extremely high and absolutely nothing comes even close to it. It’s like a rock and roll record, and I mean that in the worst possible way. Just meandering rock tunes. Absolutely no juice.

Like you said, hopefully it grows on me, but I am a little nervous.

Based only on their updated Spotify bio I’m betting it’s more lyric-heavy. But I also need to listen to it (and many of their records) many more times so what do I know

They’ve always been very lyric heavy. This record is like a bunch of mid tempo toe tappers. Which is not of any interest to me in any capacity.

But hopefully I warm up to it.

I feel like I’ve been exceptionally clear that I’m an idiot

I definitely didn’t mean to imply you were wrong, just saying they’ve always been a ā€˜message’ band.

Didn’t take it that way, but maybe a guy who has only heard a handful of their songs shouldn’t be proffering explanations to a lifelong fan on a public forum/blog

This record just makes me want to listen to all their other records, so it’s sort of a success.

We’re sooooo back

EDIT: rolled right into secrets of the world and I am not mad about it.

I’ve been sitting with the record, think I’m 5 listens in now. It is growing on me, though almost exclusively from the lyrical content. The writing is a masterclass in what they’ve been doing for years.

Does it lack the juice to make me want to stage dive? I don’t think there’s any denying that. But I do like it, it is thought provoking, I really appreciate and identify with the perspective and thoughts presented.

It has to be incredibly difficult to shoehorn your band into yelling poetically about politics almost exclusively for the last 30 years and not get sick of what you’re doing. It’s tiring, I think this record reflects that.

I appreciate this insight and went from ā€˜I’m not even sure when I would possibly revist that record’ to ā€˜alright, I should try again’ because of it.

When I inevitably love it, I will thank you profusely.

And for things to have not only not gotten better, but worse over that time. I think Morello has said as much in many interviews. I have enough anxiety and depression and rage over just sitting with what we’re seeing now, I can’t imagine writing music for most of your life about how bad shit is and having to constantly recalibrate to the new shitstorm.

Prop wrote a song about America inevitably trying to take over Canada in fucking 2005 (and probably alluded to it even before that). Chris has been sick of all this shit for a long, long time. Song rips though, at least we got that out of the horrid political landscape we find ourselves in daily.
