This is my favorite song of the year so far and it isn’t close

You’re not sniffing your own farts enough if you don’t have a dedicated streaming deck running Qobuz with 24 bit streaming rates.

Apple has lossless as well but since they don’t want you to actually plug in headphones with a proper jack you need to go find a hit or miss DAC adapter.

And Spotify? Hah. Like listening to a tin can.

Sorry, sort of long post coming.

These last several weeks I’ve discovered Sleep Token. I just HAD to write something out about them. These guys have left me feeling all kinds of emotional when listening to them. They’ve struck a chord I wasn’t sure could still be struck w/ me when it comes to music.

This latest album from 2023 (Take Me Back to Eden), I’ve played so many fucking times. This album and the band in general, is a genre-bending, emotional, masterclass in how to make actual real music. I don’t understand how they are so good at some many different things. Hip hop, rock, metal, ballads, etc… sometimes all within the same song, much less, the same album. It shouldn’t work so well. It doesn’t make sense.

I don’t feel like I’m overstating it when I say they HAVE to be one of the most talented groups ever. They are quickly rising my ranks of favorite bands of all time.

And I just found out today that their new album comes out in TWO DAYS. I’m beyond excited to listen to it.

Would love to get anyone else’s thoughts on their music. If you haven’t listened, please do it.

It’s been out for a while, but the new Japanese Breakfast (“For Melancholy Brunettes and Sad Women”) is stunning. It’s less “pop” than “Jubilee” but I think more accessible than “Soft Sounds…”. There’s even a track where Jeff Bridges (yes…THAT Jeff Bridges) sings.

For my money, it’s the best record I’ve heard this year.
