OK Crew a quick update on this event. Plans have been made, so to make a hoops metaphor we’re going to slow down the offense and start running some clock. Put it on your calendars for March 27. I’ll share another formal update sometime in late Feb.
Here’s more:
1- I have submitted the form to @Double_Bogey_Dave to maybe make it a qualifier for the NIT and also see if we can get some merch
2- The charitable component will be fundraising for Lurie Children’s Hospital. (In full transparency, this is where I work). I don’t know how the donation side will look yet (raffle, just added on to fee, etc.), but we’ll make sure it’s modest and transparent as well.
3- It appears we may have a distinguished guest to join us and hit little chippy cutty 8 irons all over the Langford Moreau gem. North Carolina Tourist Sauce Champion, Chicagoland’s very own @djpie – i’m sure something could come up for Deej but he’s hoping to make it. Thank you Deej!
4- Cost appears to be $40 for the day to walk or $55 for the day to ride. So we’ll add on something for food, charity, and potentially gambling (prizes could end up just being NIT spots and swag). If anyone has any assets to provide as it relates to swag or food/drink slide into my DM’s.
5- It’ll be a shotgun event, 36 holes. We’ll start sometime around 9:30 (hopefully post frost delay). March 27. So this means we have capacity up to 72 golfers.
6- If you’re no longer able to make it, please remove your name from the spreadsheet. If we end up with more than 72 we’ll make it first come first serve somehow. March Refuge Event - Google Sheets
7- We are planning on having some fun with a “college basketball theme”. So come with an open mind in that regard, we may be doing some quirky stuff. On that note, if you have ideas, share them. (You may only be allowed to use your “starting five” clubs).
8- It’ll be a long day, and it’ll be a long drive for most, so we don’t have anything planned for a post “hang”. Contemplating just adding on an optional dinner for those that want to. In a tent, outside, distanced, etc. etc. It may be cold, too. So this is up in the air. The mexican restaurant in town is really piquing my interest though.
9- Kankakee Elks is super chill. We don’t have to pay anything up front, so I’m going to lean into that flexibility and probably make no cash due until week or day of. This is a small, community golf course. Strapped-esque. So we’ll just take it as it comes and plan on kicking off the golf season together with a fun day with other golf sickos.

Agreed! I aged out of the genetics side for phenylketonuria (well not entirely because the only specialist works there). Great charity choice.

Ok! Huge thanks to @RLSIII for the design work here. Please vote on preferred logo, A on top or B on bottom. This could go on a hat, t shirt or 1/4 zip. Not really sure how that will work out if we will have the option of all three or just one of the three.
