LowCal vs NorCal - Copa de California

I am playing in the event next week and I almost dropped out after hearing that only 3 people were coming. If not for friends I have in the slo area, I probably would have. It sucks, I was really looking forward to hanging out with the lowcal folks.

Im currently getting headhunted down for a job in the lowcal roost and this event has definitely made me second guess if I could find a game if I were to move.

Deeply troubling. Boy, not sure if I’ll ever recover. I do think the sweetens win and NIT birth will help.

Truly sorry this had such a large impact on you. I’ll apologize in behalf of anyone in our roost who backed out, not sure who you’re actually talking about.

If you guys used up all your gas money on the trip to Sweetens I’m sure we can pass a hat around or something. Wouldn’t want people to say the defending roost champs were afraid to defend the belt…

If you can’t admit this is embarrassing for you guys, I can’t help you. Kudos on the victory at Sweetens and I suppose good luck in the NIT, but cmon, man. We show up when we sign up. It’s called being a good competitor and, you know, an adult.

The first step towards getting better is admitting you have a problem.

Almost half of our roost lives in san diego. The golf course is almost 6 hours one way from where I live. This is not true.

Also, you have zero idea why anyone backed out. Wild to make that kind of blanket statement without knowing people’s personal situations.

Yeah it sucks people can’t make it, myself included. No need for the personal attacks. It’s just golf.

Yes there are tons of reasons. But when 63% of the team backs out, even for good reasons, it’s embarrassing. Or should be. Just acknowledge that instead of pretending it’s just how things are.

Or don’t.

(But it IS embarassing.)

Where does “taking internet golf tournaments planned a few months in advance way too seriously and not understanding that life can get in the way” fall into being an adult?

Wish I could be there too. Would love for this to become an annual tradition, but maybe not given your unrelenting ability to lack any sort of grace or understanding

I don’t find it embarrassing at all that people wanted to play golf but couldn’t figure out a way to make it work around their professional and personal obligations.

People should have backed out earlier to make it easier on the organizer? Yes absolutely. But that’s different.

Belt ain’t up for grabs in this event, haha

The belt you speak of may have been won by unscrupulous methods.
Whose to say the handicaps are accurate?
Was there some frantic padding prior to sweetens?
Was Cap Patrol in use?

In my typical fashun, I’m just asking questions.

Listen, are belt matches usually reserved for WrestleMania? Sure, but that doesn’t mean they’ve never been lost on Monday Night Raw. You show up for a little friendly tag team and then BY GOD THAT’S THE ROCK’S MUSIC!"

I mean, not really. Again, if you sign up for something, ensure you can show up. Yes life happens. For 5/8 guys? I hope not. Sounds more like guys said they’d come, forgot all about it and/or decided they’d rather do something else and bailed because they don’t care. So own that.

I truly hope nobody has a serious emergency or issue and am not trying to poke fun at anything like that. Shit happens. To me, to others. I get it. But when more than half the guys bail weeks in advance it’s … embarassing. Or at least it should be.

I’d also like to acknowledge that I may have earned Schwaldo of the Month myself for my posts here, and I’ll own that if true.

But treating commitments like they’re not just that is so VERY Southern California. Way to own it!

Dude, if I didn’t earn Shwaldo honors in the first 2-3 months here. No one can earn them anymore. Something something, “public bullying is wrong, we don’t condone that” something something.

Parachuting in here a bit and without judgment on this issue, but a larger discussion about a growing trend in society to fail to meet, or otherwise avoiding, commitments might be worth a discussion (just not in this thread).

The fact we get to play semi-competitive match play in a spot I otherwise wouldn’t have played golf, is really what this is all about. Whether some of those people aren’t on my internet message board I am unaffected by.

In other news @D4ndrews wanna team up to wax my buddy @BrysonsLats and his partner?

To be clear to all - my goal was just to poke fun and to acknowledge that folks shouldn’t commit to things if they aren’t very serious about following through on that and the fact that half the folks didn’t just sits poorly with me and others.

I’m quite sure your Roost is full of solid people and that the weekend will still be very fun. Apologies if my tone was over the top, it is of course just a golf match. With our tournaments up here we make folks pay up to the organizers in advance to avoid situations like this. Shit happens, and we all get that. I know nobody feels GOOD about this and again, if I came across as a huge jerk I apologize. (If it was just as a slight jerk, I can live with that. :grinning:)

The payment deadline is this Saturday 11/4 and 4 NorCal guys haven’t paid yet

And @Kornwhalice, @BrysonsLats and I look forward to Amesing you.

I always find that payment up front makes it clear who will attend as opposed to the “sounds great” crowd.
