Heavyweights: Thicc Boys of the Refuge Unite!

Let’s just ask the board. I’m 250 square, let’s say 10 pounds a month (4%), that will put me at 215 by the end of this if I achieve at that rate (14% weight loss).

Does that seem:

  • High
  • Low
  • Fair

I’m at 235. If I lost 35lbs that would be 6.7%.
Sorry - bad math. Correct answer is 15%.

Where you guys at?

35/235 would be like 14.89%.

Right?

I’m terrible at math lol.

14% is also the number that I came to for my poll.

I think 14-15% would be a good winning number, so it’s probably a little high for the “minimum amount to get your money back”.

3% monthly loss puts us a little over 10% body weight loss by the end of the year, which I think is a good target for a pool of people getting healthier and earning their money back.

Here’s one that says 1-3% per month. So ~5 months would be between 5-15%. Split the difference and go for 10%. Maybe 10-12%?

Sister in law said the same damn thing. 1-2 lbs per week.

I say lets go with 15%

Just telling you guys to be smart about it. Don’t set goals that make you change habits for short term gain. Set fair goals and then weigh yourself every day even on the days you were bad. This keeps accountability for yourselves.

I like 15%, I think that this should be challenging, the goal is to get healthy, not to cut “enough that you get your money back”.

We could split the diff and say 12.5% gets your money back.

It’s 20 weeks. Just fyi. So 1-2 lbs per week would be 20-40 lbs.

So I am 239, I would need to lose 35lbs to make it to 15%.

Let’s vote.

What’s the cutoff for “success” in our weight-loss competition?

  • 10%
  • 12.5%
  • 15%

I accidentally bit my finger as I was scrolling through this thread and eating!

10% You will be surprised at how quickly some people quit 5-6 weeks in. Labor day parties, halloween candy, Thanksgiving. Keeping pace will be hard enough as it is.

Also, if everyone cuts 10% and gets their money back, that’s still a pretty fucking awesome result for the Refuge. So I’m coming around on 10%.

Good luck guys. This isn’t a competition to beat each other its like running a marathon, you all on the same team. If you need any support, or want to rant about struggles, here is the place. I’ve been here before and my first attempt failed. But when I decided I needed a better life and wanted to grow old with my wife and future kids, I dedicated more. Remember why you want to cut weight and get healthy and hold onto it and don’t let it go. We are all here for you guys!

I’m in. I voted 12.5% which is a bit above average. And aren’t we all, as Refugees, a bit above average?

Regardless, I’m in. Had a good routine going over the winter that I’ve let slack this summer and my wife is giving me grief about not using the gym membership. And I’m really wanting to get into a schmedium. (Note: he’ll never get into a schmedium folks).

Getting into them is easy, getting out of them is a 2 person job.
