I’m in a similar boat in that in 20 lbs up (at 224) since the summer… work and grad school have hit me hard and I’m buckling back down.
Noom is hitting me hard with “X free months with a sub” ads and I’m tempted to go with their support.

Colon Broom has my Instagram on speed-dial!
Shit yourself skinny. What could possibly go wrong?
My small intestine running through the city sewer system. No Biggie.
Best of luck to you! It’s a long process, do things little and often and it will all come together. It takes time. I started in Jan 2022 and I’m still going. If Whole30 doesn’t work for you, just try and listen to how your body feels and ask yourself whether you are actually hungry when you eat (or drink I suppose).
Just found this thread. Former extra-big guy, current regular big guy. Down 102 pounds since July. Glad to find a thread of gravity friendly folks. Let’s all do a little better each day.
Checking back in and not beating myself up over moderate weight gain over the past two months. It was a combination of a Disney trip, holidays, and having to scale back walking and exercise due to my ankle issues.
My biggest takeaway looking back is that it’s fine for my weight to fluctuate but my attitude towards eating shouldn’t. Unfortunately I can’t say that I nailed that through the holidays but there’s always tomorrow.
After a disastrous holiday season of eating and general fat assery I hit a low at new years. Got back in the gym yesterday and firing up a month or so of hardcore keto to get me kick started.
Had great success doing that, with cardio and then rolling into weight watchers to drop about 60 pounds over about 3-4 months, then COVID hit and it’s be slightly off the rails ever since.
But I too am sick of everything being tight and am availing myself of my $160 a year gym. Yeah, it’s maga gym with Fox news and lots of “thin insert color line flags” but it’s cheap as shit and 24/7 so I suffer in silence.
What app are you using here?
I’m in for getting back with the program. Ended up down 32 lbs last year, but that was only halfway to my goal. Weight was falling off at the beginning, then I plateaued for a bit, then put a little back on. Got lazy and holiday/work stress didn’t help towards the end of the year, but I’m ready to get back to it.
Great to read all this. The goals pod hit me too. Tore everything in my knee years back and gained 40lbs. Tried since to get back in shape but always had some food excuse. Have a 6 month baby girl now and “perspective” motivation is hitting. 237 this am, hope to get back to 200 but mainly just want to get back to past physicality and not have something hurting at all times. Luckily good buddy is a PT who specializes in golf to help. Good luck all!
Happy Scale on iOS. I like it.
The wife bought a Peloton for Christmas and I’ve been on it every day for two weeks. I feel great on it and the best part is I’m sleeping better too. Looking to continue the positive changes in my life and lose 20 pounds (or more)
Love to hear you like the Peloton. Ours gets delivered next Friday and I’m itching to get after it.
I fully realize it’s a marketing machine, but at the same time I’m a believer. All kinds of different options for workouts. Like last night I decided to have a 45-minute ride which is about 15 minutes longer than any workout I ever did. Felt great afterwards instead of me falling asleep playing NBA 2k23.
New Refugee here. The goals pod got my mind spinning on a few things, weight loss being the primary.
The short story is my Dad passed away in Spring 2020 (non-covid), dealing with that + estate was mega stressful, from about that point I haven’t eaten well or exercised consistently. Prior to that I had a couple years with a big weight loss (went from 230 to 170 in ~ 9 months), so at least I know I’m capable of another transformation.
Now I’m at 230 again with a Wedding coming up in November.
I find myself needing motivation, so I need to be making good food choices & consistently in the gym to maintain my Range membership, my partner will hold the keys to this decision (this would be devastating for me to lose, I love banging balls). There’s not a hard and fast rule, more that things need to pass the eye test for her.
Main goal is to get back into a groove of loss and sustainability. I also want to do a better job of tracking food & exercise (and golf) this year. I’m not going to let myself not be successful, the stakes are far too high!

Not sure if you have a program or anything for tracking food, but Noom worked for me. Logging my food really kept me accountable with making good choices.
I’m using MyFitnessPal, I’ve found that they have a good database and the app is integrated well with my Galaxy watch despite their incessant ads and clunky UI. I’ve never considered using the premium version since they generally have all I like to use in the ad-supported version and their premium seems overpriced at $80/year.
I tried Cronometer a while back and their database sucked but I liked the app. I haven’t tried Noom before.
I’m instituting a new weekly habit for tracking: weighing every Monday morning. Hiding behind the plausible deniability of not knowing until I can string a couple “good” weeks together first is a dangerous game that I don’t intend to keep playing.
“I enjoy food more because I’m consuming less of it.”
This has also been my experience. Hunger is the best flavor.
