Me and lifting have been quite the on-again-off-again couple, and this was one of the hardest things to overcome. I was so happy to discover podcasts though. I’m a huge music buff, and yet the one time I absolutely can’t bother with the stuff is when working out. Lifting is so dull, and music is basically just noise between sets.
That lines up perfectly with what I’d expect – No debates. Nice source for other activities too.
I’ve got some stupid active shooter training this afternoon so I won’t be able to come up with a google doc or anything but we will figure something out.
How about for now I’ll pay you $100 if you drop 20lbs before I do. Shoot me a DM of a picture of your scale tonight or tomorrow and I’ll do the same. I was 239.0 this morning but I’ll reweigh to take the pic.

In the gym is the only time I’ll listen to heavy metal. 1) gets me jacked up 2) doesn’t ruin my love for other music haha
I would always listen to EDM and stuff like that when I used to run a lot. It was like I was in a video game.
Can’t stand to listen to it other than for that.
I can put a sheet together for those that want to participate. We can all toss in $50 or whatever. Unless you want to run with it tomorrow?
Dude, major props for dropping 62 in 7-8 months
wow this is pretty cool, i’m in on this too. can’t say i’ll win, but i’d at least feel really good about my money going towards someone on here who works really hard towards losing weight and succeeds.
would love to buy them a greens fee (ie, i’ll put in my $50)
Thanks!
No go for it. Crowdsourcing is the best. I’m definitely in for $50, $100, whatever. My thought was to do it by % of body weight lost. Put a hard end date on it. Everyone should plan to have at least a starting pic or video of the scale, maybe get one or two in the middle and one at the end. Split the pot to the top few people depending on how many we get.
Obviously we don’t need to post all the scale pics and can definitely do this on the honor system being golfers and all but if someone wants to call BS or ask someone to prove it, I wouldn’t be opposed to having to cough up the proof.
maybe a private thread for this, or someone moderates? not sure everyone would want these pics public
I haven’t been able to participate much on the Refuge lately, but I love this thread. Thanks for starting it.
Can we establish a minimum BMI to be allowed to post on this one? I don’t need skinny guys whining about their extra 3 lbs when I’m lugging around an extra full staff bag on my 5’10" frame…
Not like a pic of yourself, just the numbers on the scale. Ain’t nobody need to see everyone in all their glory
Sounds good.
Let’s run it till the end of the year if that makes sense for everyone?
For those interested would you like to throw in $50 or $100?
- $50
- $100

idk bro, be proud of what you carry. if u got it flaunt it
but we probably should have pic with handwritten username / date in the photo for integrity cause we’re probably going to end up with a large pot…
Until I die this will be a battle I fight. I can cut out soda and sweets and blah blah blah but god dammit pasta and pizza are just the best things on earth, and no I won’t accept any cockamamie substitute that uses other ingredients. I think I could genuinely eat tortellini for dinner every night.
Instead of a biggest loser type competition, what do you guys think about this:
We all throw in $50, set a goal of 15% body mass loss or something by the end of the year, then whoever hits it gets their money back plus an equal split of whoever didn’t hit the goal.
Dude, I feel the exact same way, and pasta is the thing I cook best. I’ve tried working with whole wheat pasta, which is at least a little better, and turning some pasta dishes into brown-rice based dishes. But there’s no substitute for the real thing.
I like that
Something along those lines would be great. Not sure what the % should be. 10-15 is probably about right.
That is what that HealthyWage group challenge was. It was 6% loss and everyone gets a chunk, and they take 25% in a fee.
Depending on field-size, would a mid-Am division be out of the question?
