A thread for the Texas folks

Small world, I used you guys for my move back in January. The 2 guys I had were great and did an awesome job.

I don’t know you but I’ve used AB Moving for a number of in-town moves and have had nothing but great experiences. Small world

I know @imsocrabby mentioned in a whatsapp chat she might be able to make it up to Dallas for that Sunday. Too lazy to check if she added her info to the google doc.

Ok so I know we have a charity (nice work @DuckDuckHook) some options for play for all that is interested.

a few ?'s

  1. Are we looking at Auction/Raffle items to raise more $ for the charity. Have some stuff that would work…maybe a round at my club with @therealmarkymark and some wine from @anon24718094
  2. are we being super ambitious with 36 holes in 100+ heat? (yes I am old and a total P…and would have to convince the wife why I am not playing my club course and spending and donating oodles of $ etc)
  3. …i could have remembered the spreadsheet all wrong and need to be corrected…

Starting a Sturminator Pot if he shows.
Sturminator Golf for Charity $100 - check out my commitment line in the G sheet.
Bob, not a fan of slow golf and this has 5.5 hour rounds written all over it. But I’m really looking forward to the greetings and fellowship.
That said, if anyone is an ESPN Dallas radio listener, I could try to get Cowlishaw and/or Dennis to join. Steve is a close golf/poker buddy from my club. Swings like a drunk baby giraffe but maintains a 4.

NLU duel in San Antonio finished in about four hours with everyone walking. Any five hour rounds won’t be our doing.

Your company does a great job! Used you guys two years ago, and plan to again at the end of this month.

It was awesome and it is worth the trip in my opinion. Then again it was less than 90 minute drive for me.

Good questions.

  1. We hadn’t talked about an auction/raffle but anything that raises money isn’t a bad idea. I am in for a bottle or two of bourbon if there is enough interest. My thought would be giving every player the option of 1) a flat charitable donation or 2) committing to donate X dollar amount per par/birdie/eagle. The amounts could either be based on your handicap so a 17 is paying more for a gross par than a 2…or we use net scoring and have everybody on the same dollar amount.
  1. As to pace of play. I’ve played GCD twice since COVID hit and have gone from first tee to back in my truck in under 3:30. Both times we teed off between 930-1030am on a full tee sheet with 2 of 4 players walking. Their 10 minute tee intervals probably help too. I’ve actually enjoyed COVID golf having 1 person per cart because its cut down on the “let me watch you…now you come watch me” BS of 2 per cart. I can’t speak to how it will flow at CC but GCD has always been a well paced round any time I’ve been there over the years. The CC website indicates you have the option to ride with a playing partner or use your own cart which is promising. I’ll talk with @DuckDuckHook today as he’s a bit more well versed with CC and we could consider flipping the rounds if he thinks it may help. If our numbers land where I think they will, I think we have a good afternoon format option to ensure we are doing our part to keep it moving.

  2. yes you’re being a total P…but we all are the first week or two we have 105+ heat indexes. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

  3. The spreadsheet isn’t our finest work (yet) beyond collecting names and handicaps. I’m fairly sure I can put together enough data to overwhelm any questions your wife may have about why being gone all day for golf in July is a good idea. I’ve been doing that to convince my wife why my shenanigans are a good idea for many years (see below)

Once we close registration, we will share more details on format, charitable options, etc.

Sir,

Where do I sign up for the three hour naps?

Right now we’re at 20 all day commits with 2 afternoon commits. I suspect Bob make not respond to @Tron for a few more days as he’s on dry dock at the moment. It never hurts to get some additional exposure for the charity and NLU though if we our group numbers line up. Maybe we try and get 2 of them to show for the afternoon and that could fill out a foursome with the afternoon only players?

ask my wife. I’m good for a 20 minute afternoon nap but when she’s away from work and the kids, her ability to sleep is quite impressive.

I used to be able to do that when I was still in and playing medic. Lost that ability about a year later and I have no idea what happened but I definitely miss it.

Lunch at Milos and Momofuko…sounds like my exact lunch itinerary from a canceled LV trip the end of March…damn you Rona.

Quite impressed with early gym sessions in the sin den.

I thought I could play but it seems I have a practice round/tournament Sunday-Tuesday in Houston.

sorry to miss it!

haha they were scheduled not set in stone. I’m no gym rat…just a guy with ADHD that wakes up too damn early and needs to get the brain right for the day.

I miss Cosmo and I fear that our Christmas trip out with the kids is going to get nixed this year.

I know y’all are still finalizing but do we know when we are planning to go off in the AM? Trying to find a hotel/Airbnb that is a quick ride in the morning.

Morning tee times are between 730-810, no pairings yet

Now that we have our registration, @mctrees02 and I will try to get format and pairings set up as quickly as we can.

Note below that if you want a solo cart at Cedar Crest, it’s actually $55. I strongly encourage cart riders to go solo, but I realize that’s a bit more than it usually costs to play at Cedar Crest.

  • Morning Round at Golf Club of Dallas: 7:30 A.M - 8:10 A.M. (5 foursomes) $59.99 ride/$46.00 walk
  • Lunch: TBD (will be patio and socially distanced, likely at Black’s in Deep Ellum)
  • Afternoon Round at Cedar Crest Golf Course: 2:36 P.M. - 3:36 P.M. (6 foursomes) $55.00 solo ride/$38.00 paired ride/$21.00 walk
  • Scoring and NIT Qualification Format: TBD

I’ve added two new fields to the google sheet. If you all could please take a minute and mark if you intend to walk, ride or ride solo it would be greatly appreciated. Also, please indicate if you intend to join us for lunch. For now, let’s work under the assumption that we’ll have a few outdoor tables at Terry Black’s where we’ll have plenty of space to spread out and stay in small groups.
