Absolutely!
I might be able to make it. Not sure what Friday is going to look like for me yet though.
Anyone working for Oil and Gas companies, slide into those DMs. Love to talk about buying gas from you guise. Lot of win-win options right now and give the strip pricing, those are needed badly.
(Thank you for allowing this drop in and unsolicited cold-call)
Been away for a few days and catching up on the North vs. South thing. All in on this! Of course, by “all in” I mean “All in assuming my wife accepts the gift that I get her that says thank you for letting me go away for a couple of days to play golf (again).”
I’m about to do this myself but the place of topic will be Bandon. Wish me luck.
I’m interested but it will probably been a game-time decision for me.
Yeah not sure I can get out of the office by 1 but I may try to meet y’all at the turn and play 9. Game time decision for me as well.
I can start poking around for tee times around 1 p.m., but if any of you locals want to do it, feel free. Y’all know the area better than I do. Only course I’ve played is The Quarry.
Would you be down for something between noon-1ish at Cedar Creek? Not the best track but passable, and reasonable greens fee. It’s not Brack or Quarry but there’s a chance I have to grab my offspring by 530-6 and a 1pm at Brack or Quarry might make that a tight squeeze.
Good luck and God speed, my friend.
For sure!
Anyone planning on attending the match play event in a couple weeks? I’m in the metroplex and thinking about flying down for the day on friday. Airfare is super cheap and it would be an easy day trip. Tickets are a little steep at $150 for a daily badge but I’m guessing i could probably do better than that if i wait til the last minute or just buy one from a scalper.
I’m a tour junky and have never seen big cat play in person. I figure this might be my easiest opportunity.
I’ll be out there one day. W-F are the best for group play, followed by Saturday. Sunday sucks, unless Cat is playing
I will be volunteering, but also there Wed-Thurs as a spectator. I agree that those are by far the best days if you really want to watch anything. Even by Friday the party is starting to wind up and some of the guys are just going through the motions.
If you go, the front nine is better for seeing the golfers up close. Holes 12-15 are very cool, but it’s all crowds and grandstands. I like sitting at #5 green and behind #16 green.
Before I go ahead and book a tee time, is there anyone interested in joining myself and @MikeHoncho at Cedar Creek on Friday between noon-12ish? I know @cgroom and @jbrooks are game-time or back-9 decisions, just want to throw it out one more time for the group.
I’ll be going to the Match Play on Saturday with the wife and daughter. This is our first time attending so any and all tips appreciated from y’all veterans.
The area down on the lake (12 green to 16 tee) has a “village” of grandstands, concessions, etc… where most of the stuff that’s not directly golf related goes on. Depending on your tastes, you might spend time there early in the day (less crowded) or later in the day (better party). Up the hill, I like the stretch from #5 green through #7. Also, sitting by #9 green can be interesting to see the tee shots come down the big hill.
I highly recommend getting there early on Saturday to see more golf. There’s 8 matches in the morning compared to 4 in the afternoon, and the crowds don’t pick up until towards the end of the morning session.
For the front nine, I like getting a spot at 6 green to see their second shots into the par 5. It also keeps you pretty close to the rest of the course. I also agree that 9 is a fun hole to watch, and the crowds are a little less since 8/9 are separated from the rest of the course. On the back nine, 13 fairway is great.
Second a lot of what’s already been said about the Match Play. Definitely don’t get sucked into watching holes 12-15 down by the water because that’s where everyone is. Good for a nice family photo with the bridge and water in the background or for food and drinks but you can find better golf action elsewhere. I personally like watching approaches from behind 16 green then go watch 17 but matches don’t seem to make it that far very often.
I second the 16 green advice. If you do go down by the water (and you should, even if you don’t stay long) there are often spots available sitting on the rope in front of the grandstand on the #13 fairway, right where the layups are landing. Sometimes the layups even end up where you are sitting, if the wind is from the North.
