There’s no dine in…still curbside, so no lines
Narrator: It’s too long.
Yeah those are pretty great. They have them at Market Street as well
Opa’s Jalapeño and Cheese is the
Are these the ones you picked up for the Buc-ee’s Cup? If so highly endorse

Those were awesome. I thought someone said they were just the basic HEB ones though.
Shh. Grownups are talking.
Mark bought them and I cooked them so I guess that “someone” was wrong.
I must have just mis-heard. I did get the Central Market/HEB part right. Just didn’t catch the “Opa” brand. Regardless, kudos and thanks for introducing me to them.
Just got a job at Ben E Keith about a month ago and my coworker has been helping with things at Goldee’s since they opened. I was hoping to go try it soon, but alas, now you won’t be able to get anything good if you’re not in line by 7. Hoping Zavalas is low enough that the line isn’t two miles long.
The TX Monthly rankings are a funny thing. Good central Texas brisket revolves around one major thing: time. As soon as someone cracks the top ten, that asset becomes a problem. Apparently the Goldee’s guys are really worried about the number one spot. Went from buying 30 briskets to 125 for this upcoming weekend. It’s hard to keep up quality with exponential growth.
One last thing: the whole “OUR BBQ IS BETTER” talk drives me absolutely bonkers. Nearly every culture on earth has their version of cooking meat. My buddies in Zimbabwe have been doing braai’s for generations. Maybe there’s just something to guys enjoying meat being cooked for long periods of time and embracing their local traditions.
I was worried about the same thing. I don’t know even know what their smoker situation looks like. Every top ranked place has multiple custom pits that they’ve accumulated and learned to use over time as their volume has increased. How do you go from a place that most locals haven’t heard of to the number 1 place in one week?
Hate to break up the BBQ talk (will ride hard for Stanley’s in Tyler) but some of the DFW squad is having a mini Stevens Park meetup Saturday morning. Three tee times between 8:40 and 9:00 and we’ve still got two spots if anyone is interested in joining us!
A buddy and I are going to play the two courses in Glen Rose (Apache Links/Comanche Lakes) next Saturday the 30th. For those of you that have played them, since we’re playing 36 that day, do you have advice on which to play in the morning versus afternoon between Apache Links and Comanche Lakes?
The day before, we’re playing The Hideout in Brownwood on Friday. Haven’t seen any of these three tracks but looking forward to a mini golf getaway.
I don’t know if it makes a huge difference this time of year but the Links doesn’t have much shade so it might be better in the morning. They’re both solid, affordable courses.
Yeah, Links is an easier start and the front has no shade so I would start there. Lakes has a more demanding tee shot for #1 & #2
Is there still a spot open? If so I’ll take it.
Hey dude, we’re all full unfortunately. We’ll catch you at the next one!
Spencer, thanks again for putting together today’s outing. I always enjoy playing Stevens and today was no exception. Was good to meet a few more of you guys too.
Grew up in midland. Greentree is the residential country club course out there. Friend of mine played on the 5A ladies’ state champ team from LHS during high school who lived on the course. I played it a couple times after a few years driving thru from El Paso after college.
My first golf experience ever was playing in a corporate outing at Hogan Park in midland. Stepmom dragged me out and I got to make a clutch putt that won the event for us.
Second golf experience was shortly thereafter in Ruidoso New Mexico at Cree Meadows, another muni near a cabin we had there…
Third trip to play was with my brother at Lozano Beach in corpus where he lived at the time. Third times the charm I guess. Never really skipped a chance to go play after that.
Took twenty more years for me to get to my current state of obsession. But I ‘learned’ to play the game in the wind.
