A thread for the Texas folks

I am making the turn at Rockwood. I am happy to report the Pro Shop is Open(ing) for Business. Still moving in though.

As maybe the only Amarillo guy in here, it’s very pleasing to me to see our 2 courses at Ross Rogers ranked so highly on the public list.

If you guys ever have a reason to spend an extra day in Amarillo, it’s well worth the $45 weekend peak season green fee to play the Wildhorse (33rd) and especially Mustang (3rd) course. Both are on par with or better than everything public I played while I lived in the Houston area when I lived there a few years ago. Honestly we have 2 private clubs here and the quality of these 2 public courses is the only thing that keeps me from being able to justify a membership.

I’m planning on it, just trying to figure out which qualifier date works best for me.

Some people are saying that they slow down the course for the Am qualifiers and that it plays much tougher the week after in The Golden Age Classic.

i played the last qualifier last year mid july and it was firm and fast

I signed up for June 27th but I’m actually hoping for firm and fast. My understanding is that it’s top 10 (or 15?)% of the field on that day that qualify, not across all days, so I’m hoping for a blood bath on my day where everyone gets destroyed by their greens but I get destroyed just slightly less.

I think the Golden Age was actually there the same day last year. There was for sure some tournament out infront of us and the course was in fantastic shape.

I also got the 27th

I agree. I played in the Bud partnership a few years ago and was shocked by the quality of those courses. It was one of the best golf experiences of my life. John Colligan has quietly built up a solid portfolio of courses.

I did. I’m playing May 23rd.
