A thread for the Texas folks

Don’t know what year this lineup was, but couldn’t help noticing a name for the left fielder that will be familiar to those who read Astroball. Just had a couple of top-5 MVP years for the Red Sox.

Based on people in the lineup it was 2013. Can’t really blame the Astros for releasing him before the 2014 season, he was a -1.2 WAR player the year before. Of course he then went on to be a 4.6 win player for Detroit that year

Yea, he was a poor mans Marwin Gonzalez at the time. They used to for some reason market him JD Martinez the home town hero even though he wasnt from Houston.

Any room for a wannabe-Texan?

Declare what city you ride for.

Could be talked into riding for H-Town or Austin/San Antone. No love for DFW from me, mainly owing to a disdain for Dallas, StinkyDak, etc. - no offense to FW, love FW!).

Pretty mainstream opinion for a shit-stirrer.

I’m probably letting recency bias dictate my opinion, as I was fascinated by H-town. Never been to San Antonio before, just know that @MerchCzar will be shot on sight if he ever steps foot there again.

I know y’all have mentioned an ex girlfriend in San Antonio a couple times and I really want to hear the full story.

Neil made some disparaging remarks about the Alamo and Shea Serrano issued a kill-on-sight order.

Look, on its own, San Antonio can make a pretty compelling case. However, don’t forget that we’re teaming up with Austin. These two awesome towns have put their differences aside and have united by the power of breakfast tacos.

As a Pan-Texan, we can discuss all of the real and perceived differences. As long as the Centex folks bring kolaches.

And relatedly, will spend most of the weekend sniffing their own farts.

Pretty typical for a town full of California transplants to team up with a city whose most famous figures were from Tennessee.

Is Tennessee vegan?

It’s pretty easy to watch even bad baseball in the AC. This point is about to be proven again in Arlington.

We can figure something out. H-town may need a lift.

How does May 22/23 look? I am going to apply for NIT spot once i block the tee times (today hopefully).

Just saw this thread (thanks @chitwood for the heads up). I’m way in. Love Pine Dunes with all my soul.

So then I guess the next question or a question to answer soon is what charity will we give to

Each region should nominate their own charity, and then the winning team of the weekend gets all/majority of the charity dollars for their nomination. Just an idea
