2024 Refuge Roosts: Local Clubs & Club Championship Outline

Similar reaction from our crew. @leftysauce has been putting events together and exponentially growing them each time around. The competitors can’t get enough of it and now the word is spreading like wild fire and more guys are #GettingInvolved, not only in the event, but with NLU!

Did I say every 4-5 weeks was too much? I never even really addressed you and I’m not sure where the time frame came from. What are we even talking about? Are you paranoid about something? :joy:

You posted your opinion about “Too many events waters down the ones you do have, and as excited as we all are right now in December, we won’t get to play in one event per month for 10 months when we have all the other things a number of us play in as well.”

I wanted to tell all the other Roost leaders (Cocks?) that I am having the exact opposite reaction in my Roost and that maybe it’s more the merrier.

Some responses in my chat after I asked if they thought if one meetup a month was too much:

“I look forward to them every month”

“As somebody who can probably only make 3 per year because of work/life it really doesn’t make a difference to me if I have to miss out of them. It gives people more options for the ones they can make”

“I’m envious of you guys every month.” (A guy that lives 5-6 hours from us on the other side of the state)

“I’ll miss more the year than last. But I love that there are more because that gives me more opportunity to make it to them.”

“I get stoked every month but shit comes up and I’m glad I only gotta wait one more month to do it again”

“I don’t understand, who wants to play less golf?”

"Big fan of monthly meetups knowing that I’m not going to make all of them due to weddings, family, other life things. Also, love the variation in courses and formats. Some of them (e.g. wine valley) are a great reason to make a trip out there where otherwise I’d say “ehhhh, I’ll just play a quick 9 at my home course”

“Haven’t done it yet, but agree with all of you. Excited about the monthly events and the variety of events. Also, winning the season long points race is not at the top of the list of reasons I’m excited about the events. So if I have to miss a few, it’s nice to know there’s another one next month.”

“Agree with Tyler, haven’t played yet but excited to play the more unique formats which are made possible by the wealth of tournaments”

So, again, to all the Roost leaders (Cocks?), ask around your Roost and figure out what’s best.

Grateful for the #efforting that @MrVinegar206 has put in to foster the NLU PNW community for the last couple of years and I’m stoked for season-series he’s created for ‘22.

I was rereading this earlier and have a little confusion on the regional tournament. Do we only get to send four players per roost for the regional tournaments as well? Or is it a larger field?

Removing to prevent confusion - @MrVinegar206 made it clear

The way I understood it originally was:

  • Everyone in a roost is allowed to qualify for the Regional if they want to and are a Nesticle.

  • 4 players qualify out of each Roost.

  • The Regional is 4v4(v4v4 if necessary for your region)

  • Winning team advances to the Roost Club Championship

So I think the regional is really whatever format the captains decide. In their example it sounded like you could simply take the low four scores (or any number really) from each roost in the regional tournament and that determines which roost advances, and then each roost has their on system for determining the four in the championship.

This is how I understood it originally as well, but it seems a bit limiting. I don’t see why there couldn’t be more formats that allow for more players from each Roost to take part. Especially in regions with only two or three Roosts.

I think this is the part that’s causing confusion. Would assume regionals won’t be 4 v 4 in absolutes (but very well could be based on Roost Captain agreement). Might be something like send as many as you can to event and best 4 count. Both approaches have pros and cons

“Each club is responsible for play in/selection of their four representatives from the club to compete in the regional tournament”

That’s what the the Roost qualifier is for. The Regional should be exactly that in my opinion, a Regional. It’s “special.” I’m already thinking of sending our 4 Roost qualifiers down to Pasa for the Regional with Nor Cal

“Once a regional champion is determined, that club will decide what 4 members of the club will represent the club at the Roost Club Championship”

I think it’s saying the Captains can sub someone out/choose the 4 members that go to the Club Championship if someone was part of the 4 that qualified from the Roost and helped the team qualify from the Regional, but can’t go to the Roost Club Championship?

Keeping the regionals to only four players might be the best course for simplicity / travel.
