Whoop Band | NLU Group Code: COMM-NLUNLU

Placed my order today as well. Looking forward to trying it out!

Oh yeah I 100% agree with you here. I am really hoping it will serve as a reminder for me to be better about the things that will help me get better sleep and create better habits.

Whoop hasn’t improved my sleep at all. My typical routine before bed is:

Hammer 5 mixed drinks
Drink half a pot of coffee (black)
Smoke 1-2 Black & Milds
Hop in bed and read off iPad for 2 hours

Probably not important but I also share my bed with more people than Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Someone whose good at Whooping please help me with what setting I need to turn on. I am dying.

I feel like my strain from riding 18 holes is way too high. I’m a fat piece of shit but it still seems high for riding and not walking. I try and walk as much as I can during a round to get extra steps but didn’t know if anyone else had this same thing.

The strain comes from a sustained measurement of an elevated heart rate for 4+ hours. I get higher strain levels from riding in a cart than I do an intense 30 minute cardio. Not sure if that’s good or bad, but that’s what the data shows. Even when riding in a cart, you’re walking plenty to and from the cart, and you’re doing a physical activity that gets the heart rate pumping. Walking between shots should add to that heart rate but perhaps not as much as you might expect.

There’s also potentially some evidence that the strike of a golf ball and the impact with the ground can mess up the measurement of your heart rate. Though this is evidenced more in a range session than it would be spread over over an 18 hole round. But some tour guys I’ve talked to have said they get enormous readings for range sessions that aren’t overly strenuous.

Can’t relate. Low handicap privilege strikes again.

I honestly don’t see how you could cut out any of these essentials. Condolences to your family on their loss.

Would enjoy getting added as well. Whoop user name is @coachbombay.

That makes a ton of sense. I guess I when I hear the word strain I associate it more with more strenuous cardio workouts and not the 4+ hours of golfing.

I feel/felt the same way. My first round was a 14.9 strain which is crazy. Then I saw unbelievable heart rate data. My heart rate isn’t going to be 170 while golfing. Once I went to the bicep strap it got more in line with what I’d expect and my last round the strain was like 9 and my hear rate only got to the 90s, which is right for me.

The heart rate monitor is going to have differing levels of accuracy and different placements, depending on skin pigment and fat. For me the wrist is a really bad place.

Good to know. Tomorrow will make a week wearing it so we’ll see what my data looks like after a few more weeks and adjust if needed.

I should mention that I wore it for the first 9 holes I’ve walked in at least 6 years and I think my band thought I was near death lol. Hopefully more walking 9 = lower strain and heart rate.

Today was the start of week 3 for me and my data is starting to become more consistent.

I’m working from home part time and it will be interesting to see how my numbers change when I return to work full time.

Any one figure out which wrist to wear it on? It seems when its on my left wrist my heart rate shows up slower than when I have it on my right wrist.

Anyone have any luck getting the promo code to work/remembering what the code is? I thought it was NLU15 but no go. Or not good in Canada?

Look at these excited idiots in the picture. I think I’ll stick my family on the porch with the same looks on our faces. May be UPS’s last delivery to my house!

Something I had not considered until I saw an IG post from Andrew Hannon (he is a golf physio) and I realized that high heat and humidity readings play a big role in increasing the strain reading. I played rounds on consecutive Sundays at my home course (riding both times) and the main difference was a 15 degree diff in air temp. The cooler round resulted in a much lower strain (12.5 vs 8.9).

Absolutely, high heat and/or humidity will cause your heart rate to run higher as your body moves blood closer to the skin surface to help cool you.

Even without that technical solution I think we all know that playing in the heat and humidity is draining.

One of the guys I play with regularly has mentioned the humidity does a lot for his strain levels. We played 2 weeks ago, walking 27, when it was about as perfect as it’s going to get in a Wisconsin summer vs walking 18 last Sunday when the humidity was oppressive, even if the heat wasn’t, and the strain was higher on the 18 hole round than it was on the 27 hole.
