Whoop Band | NLU Group Code: COMM-NLUNLU

If that doesn’t work you can always use anyone’s whoop code. Shameless plug here is mine: https://join.whoop.com/#/19BCC1

Always find these clips interesting whether it’s someone working out or especially playing golf.

I’m a Bama fan. I hate Auburn because I have to. I hate Tennessee because I want to.

Don’t worry, it goes both ways with much less satisfaction in the relationship coming from a UT (not that one) fan.

I have been using this for about a week now and am used to working out hard everyday but have taken it easy the past few days because the band suggested a low strain (under 10). My recovery is still insanely low as is my HRV. My question is should i just continue my normal routine for the next few weeks so the band gets used to me or should i listen to the band right off the bat and eventually the recovery will go up?

I would spend a month just doing what you normally do and let it track. Even then i’d take the results as only one input and not be a slave to them.

I’d go online and look at your full days heart rate data to make sure it looks right too.

Keep doing what you are doing. My first day in the green wasn’t till day 9 despite feeling 100 percent in that timeframe. My HRV after a couple of weeks is starting to ping pong up and down like they should it should. At first it was just the same number for a week straight.

Really appreciate the advice! Was very frustrated and trying to adjust but I’ll keep up with my routine and let it adjust to me. Thanks guys!

Good to hear your insight…I’m on day 7 and was wondering why I can’t seem to get my recovery above the 40-50% range. Sounds like it just needs more time to learn my habits.

Is there a Refuge team? If so, can someone add me? Username: @matthiskes

As my friends father told me at a karaoke bar after his wedding reception, “Life is a participation sport, so start participating.”

But I digress, I’ve had the band for about a week it’s really cool all the info you can get. My big takeaways so far:

  1. alcohol is really bad for sleep
  2. tried using headspace/meditating apps before bed, so far that seems to have a nice impact on increasing REM/deep sleep, although still trying to nail down other variables to help deep sleep

Just ordered my band after realizing that work would cover it since it’s a membership vs a smartwatch equipment.

Looking forward to understanding my recovery, and how changes in caffeine intake will affect me over time

Do you all tell Whoop that you’re going to sleep in the activity tracker—or just let it figure it out?

depends if time to sleep is something you care about, are you wanting to maximize time in bed vs quality of sleep / sleep performance? If so, I would say yes.

Personally, I just got the band and am waiting for my first month of journalling to see what variables affect my sleep and to what extent. Once I have that dialed I may look into time to sleep, in which case, yeah you would start a sleep activity as soon as you decide to go to sleep (after I put my book down and turn off the light for example).

EDIT: I’ll add that the app has been super accurate at detecting my sleep hence I’m not bothered about starting it as an activity.

I just ordered mine last night and thats one of my concerns, if I have to manually input when I’m exercising and when I’m going to sleep doesn’t that somewhat defeat the purpose of a “tracker”? I’m clearly still interested as I ordered the thing and most people have raved about them, just seems a little odd to me that there has to be a bunch of manual input as well.

Setting when you go to sleep helps dial in the accuracy of how quick you fall asleep once in bed.

You don’t need to do this. Try it without for a month and try with it for a month and compare.

Whoop customer service has already been good - decided to use the googlepay option and forgot to use the NOLAYINGUP discount code - emailed them asking if they could add and they responded within 2 hours with a refund and note. Don’t think it beats the small shop in Utah but good things so far

23 days late to this but… this book changed my life.

Because I know 99% of the people reading this won’t go and read the book I’ll sum it up for you. Just sleep more. Just fucking do it. It’s 1 million times more important than you give it credit it for.

Nope. You could just use the thing with no manual input. Only input I do is when it prompts me every morning with my tracked items I selected in the journal (did you take melatonin last night, did you drink, how much and when was your last drink, did you wear blue light blocking glasses and when, etc etc.). There are a whole plethora of items you can track… or not.
