Anyone know what I did wrong threading this? I do not have an engineering degree from MIT, so I’m struggling with this band.
How long did people find it took shot #1 to wear off? I got mine Saturday and have been walking up with red recoveries the last few days without my typical red recovery behaviour (haven’t had alcohol, hydrated, going to bed on time etc). It’s been really hot the last few days as well so I’m not sure if that’s impacting sleep, hydration etc, but a bit surprised/concerned to still be in the red…
It might be worth taking some melatonin to aid with sleep. The shot does hit some people harder than others.
I got mine on a Monday and didn’t feel back to normal until Friday or so.
Got mine a month ago, and recovery was only 2 days to get back to normal.
I’m taking a pause from this whole WHOOP thing. I think it mildly stinks for sleep measurement which has a huge impact on score. I’ve gotten way too invested in my recovery score but it’s so inconsistent. And I’m not a true athlete or even close. I just want activity tracking and other basics. So I bought a Garmin V-Sq and so far it’s all I need (and said I slept really well last night so there). I probably will end up getting an Apple Watch again as I become more aware of the limitations here but the WHOOP experiment might be over for me.
Oh boy, this should be interesting: https://twitter.com/whoop/status/1402655797725773826?s=21
Got an email today from whoop. I’m going to their lab in Boston next week for some kind of workout.
Two free months if you do it if anyone’s interested
Like @greebs above i stopped using the whoop a bit ago. It was great pre-vax to let me know if I had covid but in general its recovery was crap. I switched over to a Polar Vantage M which can track my strain and sleep as well. It seems way more in tune with reality and gives insight into why it’s saying what it says. It also calculated hrv and recovery bases on a 4 hour block not a random 5 minutes. It also measures strain.
Some screen shots:
I’ve had whoop for over 6 months now and I’m starting to think that alcohol might be really bad for you….
Feel very tired, very meh today. Was up early yesterday, stayed up a bit late, had a fair amount of caffeine… Whoop recovery this morning? 93%. Highest in like three months.
I think Whoop may be great for actual athletes. Not so much for average folk.
I had whoop for less than a month and had all kinds of issues/ irregularities that made me second guess the big down payment. Then I started having syncing issues and bit the bullet and returned it.
I was still interested in the sleep metrics and hrv info, so paid $60 for a fitbit that, in my mind, is giving me more realistic sleep/ rest/HR/ hrv data.
In a different note, I feel like Whoop has become the copper magnet bracelet of the golf world. Everyone who thinks they are a player will wear one and swear by it, until it comes out that it did absolutely nothing. It seems more like a fashion accessory/ golf status symbol now.
What sort of variation do people get for strain from a walked round of golf, especially at different times of year?
I’ve been generally 12.0-13.5 for golf in autumn (mid to high 20s Celsius) but the past two days have got a 7.3 and a 9.3 (mid to high teens celsius).
Am I just getting fitter to be landing these scores now, does the heat matter that much, or something else?
Just walked 18 on a moderately hilly course with temps in the low 90s and very high humidity. Last few holes were a struggle but I finished birdie birdie despite being dead on my feet.
4 days at Bandon: 20.1, 17, 16.7, 16.5.
I’m ready to chill for a few days.
As many others have said, recovery does indeed feel random. Unless I drank like a fish and slept for 4 hours it can vary wildly. Slept for 9 hours? 67%. 6 hours of tossing and turning? 92%
As a father of a toddler. I can say recovery score doesn’t really take into count length of sleeping. I average 4-6 hours a night most nights. And my recovery will sky rocket with things like melatonin, CBD, and sometimes a small pour of bourbon.
The rare nights I do get 8 hours. Doesn’t really “boost” recovery like you would think.
Again I don’t think the whoop is for everyone. But personally it works really well for me. And the data is cool
