I had this same response drafted and somehow it didn’t post. Warms my heart
Congrats and fuck that hole.
Congrats Shane!!! Good for u man.
Big time. Just looked it up—last 10 times playing there I am +16 with 1 par
Ending to an epic trip. The Trip: Amtrak from Sacramento, CA to Granby, CO. Then a week of perfection in Steamboat Springs for the 4th of July. Only stayed in Denver for this slice of greatness.
Commonground. Aurora, Colorado. Tom Doak
Took part in their caddy program and the whole loop added up to a top 3 finish in golf experiences. It completely lived up and surpassed the vision in my head. Thanks to @mofo313 for throwing one back.
@GremlinGolfer it slaps…

8 new courses just in this stretch! On pace to blow my previous rounds played record of 39 out of the water this year!
Had quite possibly the most disappointing 82 I have ever shot today at L.A Nickell in Columbia, MO. 3 3 putt bogeys, multiple burned edges for par, and 2 doubles. Did have a tap in birdie after driving a short par 4 and just missing the big bird though. The company was good though and it wasn’t hotter than the devils asshole like it usually is in July here.
Needed a place to humble brag, so please bear with me for a sec as I give a quick backstory. I grew up playing golf thanks to my grandpa, but never really learning it. I sucked. Sucked bad. And my friends, they were all good. Really good. Played on the HS team as a freshman and then hung it up. Maybe played 1-3 times in college.
Then, after college, I got my heart broken and decided to use some money I had started setting aside for a ring for a new set of clubs. I got the itch - NLU, Golfer’s Journal, pods, tournament watching, et al., but still sucked. Couldn’t pull the driver out of the bag because 90% or more of the time it was slicing OB.
Through some range commitment and a handful of lessons at a really nice place that didn’t try to drastically overhaul my foundation, I’ve started to hone in my game - and this summer I’ve really dialed it in.
All this to say, today I headed back to my hometown, 9-hole muni for a quick round with the push cart and shot a 39 (par 36). Pretty sweet to see everything pay-off, especially considering at our 2-day last year I shot an abysmal 63 on the first 9 loop.
We’ve got a thread for that!

(Nice one!)
Me and @RunItOut played Midland Golf Club in Kewanee, IL yesterday. Old-School Country Club course with narrow fairways and short rough. Lots of variety and was challenging yet playable. Couldn’t be more up my alley. One of my favorites was #16, a dead straight par 4 with trees all lined up next to the cornfield. I loved this course from beginning to end.
Great meeting you and so glad to hear Commonground was a great experience. Hope we can tee it up together next time through.
Finally got my local Golf ID card in Hawaii for reduced rates. Played Ewa Villages Golf Course for an early 6am dew sweeper round. Paired with two delightful locals Jacob and O’Duki.
Course is a delight and at only 32 bucks for 18 on a Sunday a real value.
Also. Shoutout to parking lot chickens.
@golf4miami : As best I can, I’ll try to hit high points
From start to finish you get a first class and golf first experience at PD Club. As you enter through the front gate and turn the corner onto property, you get an unbelievable view across the expansive grounds and clubhouse. The unique experience of the club starts with a sit down breakfast (Available everyday I believe) in the restaurant that again overlooks most of the back nine and practice facilities. One criticism would be the driving range, which is undergoing a huge transformation in partnership with West Virginia University. The current range is located in the middle of the back nine and is a short uphill range, but they are expanding and building a new indoor facility as well.
Played in early June and the greens and course conditions couldn’t have been better. Greens weren’t terribly fast, but as smooth and healthy as I’ve seen. The layout is superb with a great mix of getable par 4s with long par 5s and signature Pete Dye par 3s. I am normally not a huge Dye fan, but this was a less tricked up version of his other designs while still incorporating his signature elements. High points: Start to this golf course is as good as I’ve seen. #2 is one of the best par 4s you’ll play all day or all year with a difficult angle into the fairway with trouble down the left. Second shot playing into an incredible green complex. #4 is a classic Dye par 3 playing over 200 yards from the back tee with water bordering the entire left side. #5 features a really cool angle as you aim at the smoke stacks in the distance. Best part of the course happens after #6 when you navigate through an old coal mine shaft to get through the next tee. The only flaw I see in the golf course is the 17th green, which is truly one of a kind. I can’t really describe it, but I would love to see if flattened.
Outside of the golf course, PD Club has one of the best halfway houses you’ll see with a great outdoor bar with fire pits and Adirondack chairs. The bar is situated between the first tee and 9th green with a truly amazing atmosphere. Make sure to hit up one of the best stocked pro shops you’ll find. Also grab a custom Pete Dye Peter Millar belt! Staff was terrific throughout the entire day. I can’t wait to go back.
Banff with @alhunter and @duncmitchell. It was lovely.
35-40 years ago they fucked the all-world out and in routing. It really is a bummer. Imagine starting St Andrews on #4 and that’s what they did to Banff Springs in the interest of a driving range, parking lot and newer club house. A travesty.
Nevertheless a great set of holes.
John this is incredible!!!
First time down at Barnbougle Dunes in five years, already planning the next trip. The newest edition Bougle Run short course is a Bill Coore masterpiece and really good fun. Weather perfect for winter the first two days, rain the third and the wind came in day four. Great fun, no better turf than fescue and three superb courses.
Played down at Houston National with a buddy of mine who is a member, not the greatest course but for a free round of 36 holes I’d kick a a toothpick into my toenail on purpose. Greens were rolling very slow but still playing pure. On the first 18, my buddy broke 80 for the first time, and I shot a 77. On the second 18, we played a little two man scramble, in preparation for a tournament we got coming up, and we shot a 67 (no handicap strokes added). Decently happy with the outcome, driver was bipolar but irons and wedges felt dialed.
Side Note: just switched to a broomstick putter, a last minute desperation move for a 21 year old with Randy-esque putting yips inside 5 feet and it was automatic. i felt like a goober out there, but when I rolled in a 35+ footer for eagle during our scramble I decided I might be the broomstick guy for the rest of my life.
