Should be quite good then. I aspire to your level when I grow up!
Hell yeah! I was seriously impressed with the place. I could only make the logistics work on Monday so the clubhouse was closed, but I wish I could’ve seen what the atmosphere was like to compare to Davenport haha.
I can say the league nights out there are buzzing and the pool is always popular. I bartended there for a few months to help out when they were short staffed. Can’t say I met many/if any bad members in my time there.
The 3 members I played with were a riot. One was a +2 who roomed with Keegan Bradley in college. He says Keegan fucking sucks & got in multiple fights with him + this guy was awesome so I’ll take his word and say TC is justified haha
Was an all time day meeting you and playing with you, hell of a trip you had!
Put together an unofficial RACDGNY event on Saturday, the inaugural Long Island / Connecticut Invitational Tournament. 18 holes in the morning at Island’s End in Greenport, NY, early afternoon ferry from Orient Point, NY to New London, CT, 18 twilight holes at Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton, CT. Had 5 other sickos come out from the NY metro group this year, hoping to make it a yearly event and eyeing Yale + St. George’s on LI next year once Yale’s reno is done.
Island’s End is a cool parkland course for most of the round, you head towards Long Island Sound with the par 5 14th, drivable par 4 15th, and the par 3 16th played along the sound. Ended up playing the entire back as a six some and still finished in a little over 4 hours.

Intermission
Shennecossett is a municipal Donald Ross run by the town of Groton with some great land movement and strategic bunkering everywhere for some great visuals. First time playing and can’t wait to go back. Ended up playing the last 5-6 holes as a six some again as the light was fading.
#4 uphill par 3 w/ turtle back green
Behind #12, 125yd par 3 with a tiny green
#16 green next to Thames River
Winner with the ferry trophy, his to keep until next year!
@TheGolfNomad makes my travels look somewhat sane
Just got back from a bit of a Northwest journey.
Courses played, most with @BenJKodi :
- Palouse Ridge
- Gearhart Golf Links
- Tetherow (x6)
- Pronghorn Nicklaus (x3)
- Pronghorn Fazio
- Walla Walla Country Club
- Wine Valley (only one I’d previously played)
I didn’t get that many pics but it was quite the trip over 16 days, the first half with the family and the second half with a ragtag group of 25 degenerates.
Miles driven: ~1800
Holes played: 252
Beers consumed: innumerable
Firmest course: Palouse Ridge
Favorite new-to-me-course: Gearhart, just immaculate vibes.
Favorite course overall: Wine Valley / Gearhart (tie)
Least favorite course: Pronghorn Fazio
Hardest course: Tetherow
Palouse Ridge:
Gearhart
Bend Fourth of July Pet Parade, where you can have turtles, donkeys, dogs of all sizes, a fucking kangaroo (!!), but no cats:
Tetherow
Pronghorn
(my average swing)
Wine Valley (@benjkodi’s average swing)
Fantastic trip you had. Loved hearing about it Friday afternoon at the Ope. Had a great time playing with you dude. You might have witnessed one of my best nines on the Links save the double on 18. Safe travels and hope to see you next year. HMU if you make it to Milwaukee. Be well.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it! That was a fun round & it was a blast to witness some great golf. I’ll let you know when I’m back in the area!
@jkody I have a similar trip next month & you have me so pumped now! Awesome pics & that looks like such a great trip.
I was gonna tag you in that reply to say that @TheGolfNomad has outdone you and might be the final boss of golf road trips ![]()
@TheGolfNomad is setup to do these roadtrips: he’s young, single and has disposable income.
I, on the other hand, have too many responsibilities as a checks notes (relatively) young and single male with disposable income.
We ain’t built to be walking 36 holes a day anymore though brother.
I think I’ve disposed the income too much, but it’s all good we’re having fun
As a fellow Johnnie and friend of the Captain I need a name in the dms or offsite please… never saw or heard of Keegan getting in a fight at school.
I used to be good at it too
. I’m getting drowsier on the trips now. Maybe speed is a good idea.
was wondering what the chances are that someone else has played Napoleon GC in Ohio followed by Crooked Stick back to back. Had one hell if a day today.
The Dye course in French Lick is heaven on earth.
Then add the Ross and you have everything you need.
