Visiting the Titleist Performance Institute Feat. D.J., Casey, and Cody

Hmm - Wonder if they’re HSA eligible…

No guarantee here but I would think it qualifies as an HSA expense

Didn’t know where else to put this, but I thought this was a fascinating TPI video with the instructor for the Chasing Scratch guys, who also has limitations in his swing from injuries suffered while being deployed.

Mike’s instructor (Larry Ward is Eli’s guy), but yeah… did you hear about his injuries? It may have been on the CS podcast. Major war-time things, and I think his description was gruesome.

He’s a good dude.

If you watched the video, he describes the injuries in pretty good detail.

I went and saw a golf pro who is also TPI fitness certified and it was really enlightening and worthwhile.

We started talking about my game a little as she did some mobility/flexibility measurements. After that we hit a few shots and she got straight to work talking about everything from grip, posture balance points, sequence, etc. In 90 minutes I learned more about my body and golf swing than I have ever (not much effort put in before).

Expensive (she’s at a ritzy club) but awesome. Will get a report and some videos from her this week plus a few ideas on a plan to proceed and will decide how much motivation (and $$) I have to make changes or not. At the least some of the setup and biomechanics things we discussed and worked on in just the one session will be helpful.

watching Neil’s video and reflecting on the first one, I might need like 3 days to digest all that info if I went for myself

Give me all the TPI content. I want to go do that whole assessment so badly.

Love these videos, but i find myself feeling like a hypochondriac self diagnosing issues that i may or may not have

The TPI stuff is great. I’m still considering hopping on the waitlist but man that’s a long ways away. I think Dr. Rose would have his hands full with my physical issues

Would be great for @MerchCzar to give us a peek at the workouts if they aren’t behind a proverbial paywall.

Pre-kids and 40lbs ago, i was a decent player. Ive taken a lesson or two a year for most of my golf career, i was a grind it out on the range guy. Reality set in, I’m a dude in his 40s whose body just didnt work it did a few years ago, spending hours on the range was causing a shitload of bad tendencies, not to mention back issues.

Inspired by the original video they released, Cody’s segment in particular, I made the decision to reach out to a golf lesson/movement/strength & conditioning facility to get my washed up meathead body figured out. I’m 4 weeks in and my index is dropping, but more importantly, I was able to see the exact thing that was holding me back.

The only downside is the cost, shit aint cheap

TPI stuff is great. Still kinda just wild to me how most of them - depsite doing this job for many years and being high intelligence golfers - simply just don’t get lessons regularly.

Can a normal person pay for a day with Dr. Gregg? What would be the retail value of the experience? Tee to Green TPI fitting in California is $750. A day with Dr. Gregg is that much or more?

That’s 2-4 lessons with a pro and you’d diagnose that reverse spine bend in a session if the coach is worth their money.

Conversely, wildly impressive how good Neil is given that he’s seemingly self-taught in his adult life.

The TPI in Oceanside (so hq right?) is booked out until some date in 2025 that wasn’t provided because I think they’re anticipating the new building to help them serve more. The cost was 3,000 and that’s not Dr. Rose just one of the biomechanists.

TLDR: probably not going to see Dr. rose and it’ll be 3k +

Hoping I can barter some work at his Arkansas farm in exchange for a lesson.

Not NLU but Iona just dropped an hour and fifty minute video of her time with Dr. Rose. Sign me the fuck up.

I keep watching the TPI videos and do not understand what “rock” means. Can someone explain to this dummy so he can stop losing his tee shots and possibly half his handicap?

It’s side bend. If you only shifted into your lead side and rotated without rocking back you would basically make a baseball swing and whiff (though even baseball players do some rocking).

I think I’ve seen every TPI video band the “keeping the cords plugged” metaphor blew my mind. Took a few swings keeping my abs flexed a bit and wow. Couldn’t believe how much I has been extending my lower back in an effort to “make room with the hips”. Turns out making room isn’t just sticking your butt back.
