Visiting the Titleist Performance Institute Feat. D.J., Casey, and Cody

If you guys liked this video check out some others from TPI. Both excellent. Chasing scratch one goes into detail what they were practicing with DJ. Club champion is great for assessing how an undiagnosed injury can cause issues.

I would love to visit Dr. Rose. Will actually have to explore if that’s an option for a mere mortal like myself. I have a strange diagnoses that resulted in nerve damage in my right leg (lefty golfer) and muscle atrophy resulting from that. I know compensate for that in everything I do but I would love to know what I could do better and from a health perspective the result of it on my body, I know it’s quite taxing on my back and both knees.

I think I’ll be sending an email over. I’ve long been interested in the TPI system and the medical experts but this video pushed me into the need to do it territory.

If you go on the TPI website you can search for certified providers in your area.

I’ve checked it before I’m a flight or long drive away from anyone lol. I live in the middle of nowhere. Trying to decide where/who to go to with so many options is quite daunting haha

That’s the zip we got at sweetens! Tennessee state flag

Going to tattoo “lateral, rock, twist, jump” on my arm.

Even better, you should write it on some tape and put it on top of your driver head.

I should just write it on my glove. With the red sharpie that I got as part of the 2023 Nest Member gift package.

For those TPI trained, I’ve thought about going to local one for me in Cincinnati, but am confused on the site. There are choices to look for TPI certified golf professionals, medical professionals and trainers. My golf instructor tell me my limited right shoulder rotation, leftover from 7 dislocations in my life, affects my swing. Which of the types should I see?

Would recommend medical. Would most likely be a physical therapist. Anyone that is level 1 can do the screen and then we can decide which direction to go for the additional levels based on our profession (golf pro/medical/fitness/etc).

Just watched it. Fascinating.

If money was no object, I’d be heading over the pond to see Dr Rose. Great content. Need follow ups to see if the team are sticking to the plans, and any improvements made…

Might want to demand a refund and get the colors corrected.

It looked like an awesome experience. Much like DJ I think I could spend a lot of time watching Dr Rose in his process. Very keen to get a follow-up, pod or otherwise on how it has progressed.

It was a great video for me because I struggle with the reverse spine angle and not using that left foot.

Anyone have any drills that simulate that same stool push drill without having a stool or that amount of space? Maybe just like, jump backwards off of one foot?

I think the type of TPI certified person you see (Golf, Medical, Trainer) depends on what you want to do:

Injured with a golf-specific injury? Find a TPI Medical Pro

  • “TPI Medical Certification gives medical professionals golf-specific injury assessment and rehabilitation techniques to get players back in the game.”
  • My 2 cents - These are going to be generalist physical trainers that likely have little golf exposure outside of understanding how people get injured playing golf and how to fix those injuries.

Looking to get generally better with your golf fitness/strength/flexibility? Find a TPI Trainer Pro

  • “TPI Fitness Certification gives trainers the knowledge and tools to design effective conditioning programs for players of all ages and abilities.”
  • My 2 cents - I’ve been to one of these. They’re also likely gonna be generalist physical trainers who will put you through the TPI screener and give you a plan to address your weak points (they will also probably want you to come see them for follow ups). For me it was all around my lead hip and upper back. I did some of the exercises but ultimately have fallen off that wagon to my determent :frowning:. Though seeing how much the lead hip was messing up both DJ and Cody’s swing might get me back on the horse.

Want to understand how your physical strengths and weaknesses are affecting your swing, and how to build your swing around them? Find a TPI GolfPro

  • “TPI Golf Certification gives the teaching pro a deep understanding of how the body’s strengths and weaknesses affect the golf swing.”
  • My 2 cents - A good one of these will put you through a screening, have you hit some balls, and try to help you understand how your physical traits affect your golf swing.

I think the ideal situation (assuming you don’t have an injury), would be a combination of trainer and golf pro. Someone who can help you adjust your swing to fit your physical limitations and someone who can help you address your physical limitations directly. I think Dr. Rose is essentially the best version of both of those people combined in one.

I just watched a TPI video with the TXG guys and I didn’t entirely agree with them on the reverse spine angle stuff. Tour average axis tilt is within a few degrees of 90° through to P5, and the chest actually gets ahead of or stays on top of the pelvis center into the downswing before they “flip”.

Like this block party guest of honor:

You can stay pretty “90°” while still shifting right and then back to the left, too, and those with too much axis tilt often counter-balance by shifting their hips forward VERY early. Meanwhile, Rory gets to about 86° axis tilt (reverse) late in the backswing/early transition, and Sergio gets to 80° or even maybe high 70s.

(I’m not suggesting people should swing like Sergio - he’s at the extreme end of the spectrum.)

So, I’ll be curious to see what they say here in the NLU visit video, then. (If my hunch is right, they’re totally right about this particular situation, I just didn’t think they were exactly there on Ian or whatever his name is.)

Addendum: they measure “spine angle” a bit differently.

Heard back from TPI! They’re renovating and expanding the center. That combined with the demand has them putting people on waitlists for 2025. The cost is more than I expected but I imagine worth the coin and wait. Not being able to schedule in advance makes it tough as I don’t live in California but I may through my name down and hope I have ample notice to make it out.
