TrapDraw Ep 402: United STATES Draft

Pizza, hoops, education, insurance, and the crown jewel of the PGA Tour. Most states would kill for that pal

I lived there and everyone was always talking about NYC or Boston :man_shrugging:t2:

Pizza slaps though. Punches way way above its weight.

Well it is the front line of the Sox/Yanks rivalry after all

It’s the Maginot Line

Being in middle school during the peak of the rivalry in 03/04 was just an absolute joy. I also had a coach who would ask at the start of practice “Who’s the best shortstop in the AL?” and if you said Jeter instead of Nomar he’d drop you to the bottom of the batting practice lineup :joy:

Having lived in New Orleans, Seattle, and Chicago, it is my opinion that New Orleans and Seattle are both better food cities than Chicago.

Great pod and fun idea. I did this with friends over the 4th (non-NLU listeners) and was a highlight of the weekend for all.

We had 7 people so one state (cough cough North Dakota) got the illustrious honor of not being selected.

As one of the (presumably) few North Dakotans on this website, that’s just fine and we get it. If you need us we’ll be up in the attic with our nukes and prepping storage space for when needed.

Actual (likely uninteresting to most) pic of missile storage bunker taken this weekend.

Is that a porta potty? If so, it appears to be set up in a precarious position.

Everyone that has ever spent time in Nevada cringes when people say Nevahda. I don’t understand it either, what about that spelling makes you want to overpronounce it?

Because that’s how the mountain range is pronounced?

There’s the Spanish word “nevada” which means snowy mountain - if you want to give that pronunciation to the Sierra Nevadas (which translates to Mountain Snowy Mountain, straight from the Dept of Redundancy Dept), fine, I can accept that.

But lots of regions around the US put their own little twist on the pronouncing of words to add uniqueness to their area. See Cairo, IL as an example - pronounced “kay-row” instead of “Ki-row” like how the Egyptians do for their city. The state of Nevada should be allowed such a special designation and express disgust to outsiders who do not follow that pronunciation.

Houston County, Georgia ain’t pronounced like the city.

Now I’m curious - is it “how-ston?”

basically. house-ston, how-stun, however you want to phoneticize it. imagine a southern accent and it makes sense.

That’s how Cairo, GA is pronounced as well, but it’s half a world away from the city in Egypt, as opposed to the state of Nevada, which contains part of the range. In either case, it’s fairly understandable why people would pronounce them the other way.

Texas and Oklahoma are absolutely full of these things. I always tell people we mispronounce things so that we can tell if y’all ain’t from round here. See Mexia and Bexar counties, as well as towns like Amarillo, Gruene, and Burnet in Texas.

I mean people have different accents, you can’t fight it. The amount of people that say my wife went to App-a-lay-shun State drives me nuts

Also, Beaufort, NC is pronounced completely different than Beaufort, SC

people pronounce Oregon differently when they say “Oregon Trail” (as in ‘Ore-GAHN’) versus just saying “Oregon” standalone (ie ‘Ore-GHIN’)
