I have been looking forward to this TD for awhile and it did not dissappoint. My parents spend half the year in La Quinta and have had a place on the Stadium Course for over a decade so this as close to a TD in my hometown as I will get. A few takeaways
T. Hill aka Mr. Thrill was a very enjoyable guest. Good energy, superb knowledge of the Coachella Valley
It was mentioned that dates are the main crop produced in the area. I cannot stress enough how good the Date Shakes are at Shields’ Date Shakes on Jefferson St and Hwy 111. Mmmmmmmmmm.
The Salton Sea stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnkkkkkkkks. Literally it stinks. So many dead fish, sometimes you can smell it 20 miles away.
Shoutout to the Beerhunter, as Mr. Hill said. Just an all around phenomenal bar. Awesome spot to catch football games during Thanksgiving and Xmas weeks.
Sad there was no talk of The Nest by Mr. Hill. Dinner. Drinks. Dancing. Live Music. 75 year old People getting absolutely loose and having a great time. I have been mistaken for Bill Haas twice in there.
Great coffee spot in La Quinta called Old Town Coffee Company.
Glad to see somewhat else other than myself appreciate Del Taco. A true gem of a fast food place. Plus everyone else thinks it sucks so there is never a line.
The golf course Mr. Hill was trying to think of that Phil Mickelson is a member at is the Madison Club. Sliders on every hole, baby.
The town of Palm Springs is definitely more artsy and more hip than the golf-centric La Quinta area. But both areas are certainly developing a “younger” feel. I am a huge fan of the area and would love to see it keep doing well.
I’m just mad that NLU seems to be accepting sponsorships from every possible competitor to my employer. Granted we make a lot of stuff, but wearable fitness devices, rangefinders, and portable launch monitors are all things we do. If they end up with an aviation GPS unit sponsorship from someone else, I’ll assume it’s personal and declare war.
Listening to the pod. Racking my brain to figure out if I knew Travis. I think we went to high school together. With that said, the valley high schools have some questionable mascots…
Can anyone speak on Slab City?
What is it?
Who goes there?
Have you ever been?
I have heard its technically its own country and/or not incorporated with the USA government. So no police, fire, municipal services. Completely self regulated. Mostly hippies, homeless, and people hiding out from johnny law is my guess but I’d like to hear more if anyone has first hand knowledge of the place.
Might be a place to check out, @Randy! Its definitely a safe haven from the urban meyer management system spreading across jax
Amidst the Rat Pack legends, mid-century modern architecture, and resort oasis environment exists a sub/counter culture. Slab City is OUT there. It isn’t as lawless as you think but not too far from your description. When you get out around the Salton Sea or out in Sky Valley things get sketchy, fast.
