Even as a Packers fan, I would love to hear about the Halas family just because of how friggin long they’ve owned the team. Are they the longest owners in pro sports?

The Lions are basically cousin Greg. Sheila Ford Hamp seems to be actually competent. But before she took over, the team was largely run by family members whose ceiling in life should been churning butter or making candles in a hut at Greenfield Village… But they are family so they get to run an NFL franchise.

I was in the car for over 2 hours yesterday, and listened to the whole thing. I thought this was really entertaining, and I’m looking forward to more.
A few notes to add on Steven Ross from the Michigan side of things. He’s the biggest single donor to Michigan and a big supporter of both the school and athletics. His name is on the business school and I think a few athletics buildings as well. There are a lot of Michigan people that are annoyed at him. Of course, his fundraised for Trump drew a lot of shit at Michigan, including calls to remove his name from the business school. He probably pissed more people off by reaching out to Harbaugh about the Dolphins head job - I forget how many times that’s happened, but I think it’s more than once. People were pissed that the biggest Michigan donor would kneecap its biggest program by hiring Harbaugh away. Even though he’s contributed a lot to the university, he is not a beloved donor in Ann Arbor. Fortunately for him, he can hide behind donors like the Weisers, who are much, much worse than him.
Also, if you ever branch out of the NFL, I think a look at some soccer team owners would be interesting. There is some wild shit that goes on with those owners. Some suggestions:
- Thaksin Shinawatra, former Man City owner (you could do a whole pod on him)
- Silvio Berlusconi, former Milan owner and current Monza owner (again, you could do a whole pod on him)
- Vincent Tan, Cardiff City owner
- David Sullivan and David Gold (who recently died), West Ham owners
- Mike Ashley, former Newcastle owner
- Peter Lim, Valencia owner

As the resident Dolphins fan on this board, @Tron should have given me a trigger warning before going over all of the draft picks in the Ross era. I will also think something bad will happen with the team as long as he is the owner.

The podcast The Bugle (hosted by cricket writer Andy Zaltzman and a rotating cast of co-hosts after John Oliver left as longtime original co-host) has basically been chronicling Silvio’s wild ride for like 15 years now
The Bugle is the only reason I know anything about UK/Aussie/Indian politics and know more than nothing about cricket. Need a best of episode with all of their Berlusconi updates.

All I could think about while listening to @KVV break down Dan Snyder was that, if you put his brain in PReed’s body and vice versa, I’m very confident their bodies would’ve still lived the same lives.
I have now listened to it a second time and am convinced this is my Dark Side of the Moon meets Wizard of Oz moment.
Am I onto something here?
Did Snyder’s dad have a second family in Texas that he kept quiet?
Did Snyder pay off his contacts at ANGC to keep PReed’s family away?
Were LadyJ and her family sent by Snyder to build a fortress around P that keeps him at arms length from his parents?
Does P’s disdain for seats in the line drive section stem from something deep inside telling him his rightful place is in the owners box?
We need to get to the bottom of this…
