Trap Draw: NFL Owners

Interesting topic. Volunteering as a reference to take a total fucking dump on the Haslams when the time comes.

Bob Kraft was super nice in my time in Foxboro Jonathan is super intense and doesn’t have his dad’s people skills. For example:

I’m a lowly coaching assistant in my first year with the team at some mid-season event and making my way to the exit with my then-gf. Walking to the elevator I see Bob, Jonathan and Bob’s chief of staff who is giving me strong “You know you’re not getting on this elevator, right?” eyes. We’re standing there - Bob is making small talk with us, Jonathan is staring at his phone and the elevator isn’t coming. After a couple minutes Jonathan starts asking if the elevator is broken or something when I notice, and (I thought) helpfully point out the call button isn’t lit. Bob laughs it off with a “Jees, how embarrassing” comment but Jonathan leans in and says “Don’t tell ANYONE this story.” One of those guys who can’t feel like he loses any interaction. People are worried about what is going to happen when Bill retires, I question what is going to happen when Jonathan takes over because I am not sure he knows how to play the room as well as his dad does.

Please keep going.

You alluded to the Gayle Benson drama, just incredible stuff and you have to do a deep dive. She went full Marcia and prevented his kids from seeing their dad while allegedly conning him into cutting them out of his will. Sick! Similarly, Denver guy got Alzheimer’s and put his lawyers in charge, then his kids sued them.

So many scumbags.

An oldie but a goodie, you need to do the Ford family. The absolute worst owners in all of professional sports. There is no debate about this possible.

WCF is dead now but there is a reason his wife wouldn’t let the Lions have cheerleaders at their games and why the rest of the family kept him away from Ford Motor.

WCF took ownership of the team. The day Kennedy was killed! That is how long the Lions have sucked. They won three titles in the 50s and played for a fourth. They were a premier franchise until the abominable Ford family took over.

God the Haslam’s have so many awful little stories that mostly fly under the radar of the national media, but the locals know about well. Especially around the Watson recruitment stuff

Hugh Culverhouse needs to get some looks. Offered Doug Williams a contract that involved real estate futures (which never panned out) and fucked around with Bo Jackson’s eligibility, picked him first overall despite Jackson telling them to fuck off, also offered him a shady real estate venture, and Bo promptly fucked off to the Royals. Also routinely fucked over players when dealing with league affairs and had multiple mistresses that his wife and kids never knew about, then tried to screw them over in the will. Real trash human being and cheapass.

I had a buddy that used to work for the chiefs. He has some wild stories about the Hunts but one that stands out to me is that they have a replica of their house INSIDE of Arrowhead with bedrooms, living rooms, etc. My guy was tasked with buying sheets for the bedrooms and they were thousands of dollars a set. Thousands of dollars for fucking sheets. Their treatment of the employees is legendarily terrible around here.

Love this series and can’t wait for more episodes. Jerry might need his own standalone episode. 2 hours isn’t enough to cover all of of his on and off field antics. Also, I feel like the episode was a bit too nice to Kraft. There has to be more dirt on the guy considering his connection to spygate/Hernandez/orchids of Asia.

What is there left to say about spygate? Good chance he didn’t even know about that one. And the orchids of asia thing was covered. Guy went to a rub and tug after his wife died, and it got raided, by what sounds like, some crooked cops.

The Hernandez stuff would be interesting from the angle that Kraft seems fairly loyal and like the kind of guy who’d give someone like Hernandez too many chances to climb out of his shitty past

At one point for reasons I cannot understand Instagram really thought I should follow Gracie Hunt. Interesting family it appears. Slightly nicer, much wealthier Reed family vibe.

These families basically all go off the rails when the patriarch dies.

Running through the history of franchise player signings feels like a good outlet for “down the leaderboard” big energy by @tron

To that point, when the guys do the Haslams I hope that they mention that the Browns may not be stuck with those pieces of shit had Al Lerner not died so young and somewhat unexpectedly. His kid was a clown who seemingly wanted nothing to do with owning a team. We were on to something after the first couple seasons back. Al dying really stunted the growth.
