It’s a little inside, I know - call back to the many comments the NLU boys received for their Tourist Sauce Ireland itinerary.
Ahhhhh, I gotcha! It’s been a year or two since I watched that season unfortunately. Once again, thanks for the advice, I’m kinda just shooting from the hip on this one since neither of us have ever been in that area and are just wanting to explore some.
Delightful episode!
Manchester is a useless city as a tourist destination. Portsmouth or any of the downeast Maine beach towns would be a better option.
I’m so stoked to hear about the Station 11 adaptation! I love that book!
After the discussions today, we’ve already canceled on Manchester and switched to Portsmouth! My engineer brain was looking way to efficiently and looking for direct paths. Lol
Second. Portsmouth and surrounding villages are a better scene than Manchester.
First off- Bode Miller is from NH, not Maine. I want a mea culpa for all the NH folks whose most accomplished athlete was hijacked by our crustacean slaughtering neighbors to the East.
Enjoyed the pod.
On Tim’s return visit to the Trapped Draw please discuss what makes Moxie the world’s greatest soda and why Maine hot dogs are red instead of brown.
Vienna - The freedom fries of a town that no one gives a shit about.
Maybe my favorite slogan for a town
Enjoyed the Rockland discussion. Used to have family in Port Clyde, a lovely little harbor town.
I loved the kittens and biscuits in the oven analogy. I’ve heard similar ones (sleeping on the garage doesn’t mean you’re a car), but the delivery was great and it was very unexpected.
After a short visit to Maine a few years ago, I’d like to try it again!
Timothy Simons was a fantastic guest…even my wife was listening and laughing along. Great work to get him, and we definitely need a return visit down the road. Was even cooler that he’s listened to the show before - do you think that was simply to prep for it or is he really a regular Trap Draw listener?
Also, the thought of he and @Randy golfing together made me think of the reaction of other people on the course:
Wife and I are headed to Portland tomorrow through the weekend, and it seems that bitch Elsa is going to rain out at least Friday.
Anyone have rainy day recs in/around Portland? Museums, places to go, things to see, etc… And before it goes there, I’m talkin’ outside the hotel room, you horn dogs.
Portland art museum is good if you like that sort of stuff. The observatory is worth a stop.
Assuming you have a car, Freeport and LL bean generally a popular rainy day spot
I would break out the Goretex and go shopping/bar hopping on the wharves near Commmercial
Street. Or hit some of the breweries: Shipyard, Allagash, Austin Street, etc. Plenty of day drinking to be had.
If you have a car you could do some lighthouse touring. Two lights, or even up the coast to Bath and down to Pemaquid.
No car but the rain gear and bar hopping/shopping is right up our alley. Appreciate the insight!
We were in Portland last night and highly recommend reservations in terms of eating out. Tried to go to Eventide and it was a 3 hour wait (they only take reservations for groups of 4+). We ended up with an hour wait at Duck Fat and highly recommend it! Unfortunately, it looks like Burlington tomorrow and Boothbay Harbor on Friday are gonna be rained out for us.
Lots of breweries with tap rooms. Bissell Bros probably the best.
Last October was in Portland and enjoyed Blyth and Burrows and Armory Lounge for cocktails. Only Shipyard was open for beer due to covid. Once it clears if you go for a walk stop at evo x at four points marina for a snack and beer. We just asked a local guy walking by and he directed us to some other good spots that I forget…got a little fuzzy.
