Trap Draw: Greensboro

@Randy @Tron well done on the Greensboro pod! Jim Dodson was the perfect choice and I learned even more about my home town.

To start the mea culpa…Big miss in your own research. Greensboro was the old school professional wrestling hot bed. Greensboro Coliseum home of Starrcade (what the WWE/WWF blatantly ripped off to build the super successful Wrestlemania franchise - shout out Vince McMahon, ECU alum), is the landmark where The Nature Boy, Ric Flair won at least 4 of his 25 time world championship belts.

But well done and I need more Sam Snead stories.

Time for some Dodson re-reads. Such good writing. Forgot how magically articulate he was from a speaking standpoint. Great podcast.

Did they refer to it as Greensboring at any point?

Negative, Randy threw out 3 nicknames…Tournament Town, Gate City and The Boro.

“Greensboring” was on par in the 90s, I’d say they’ve turned that around now.

Again, need more Sam Snead stories. Gui was a problem and would not get away with it now.

Thanks, guise. TC and I were both enamored with Jim and definitely want him back on at some point to tell more stories.

One of our most famous and reprehensible alumni. At least we have Sandra Bullock. #GoPirates

Would it kill the University to take the money to call it “Vincent J. McMahon Jr. Athletic Complex” instead of the boat complex??

I moved to GSO a few years ago from Raleigh, looking forward to listening and learning more about my adopted home town.

Big Randy “I had a couple of pretty good games against Guilford”
Fact Check: TRUE!

"Washington and Lee allowed Guilford just six made field goals in the second half as the Generals defeated the Quakers, 59-50, in ODAC men’s basketball action on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore guard Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) led W&L (2-3, 1-0) with a career-high 15 points while freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) added a career-high 14 points in the victory."

Really good friend was a member at Forest Oaks (former home of the GGO.Wyndham) until 4-5 years ago. I enjoyed that course and really liked their member guest.

Forest Oaks is on the up and up from what I can see. I believe it recently changed ownership again and they’re putting some money into it. Played there a few weeks ago and it was in decent shape, lots of work going on with sprucing up the clubhouse too.

Tough scene for FOCC on the pod. The GGO Nicklaus heckler story was great.

Yep…once they lost the tournament after 2007 it was different.

Maybe the best fried chicken I’ve ever had was there.

Do they still have the giant green scoreboard posts sitting around the course? Relics of the GGO days. They were up last time I played out there (4 years ago?)

They were there the last time I was there–2-3 years ago.

Yep all the scoreboard posts are still there as of 3 weeks ago.

Wonder if Wash & Lee beat Guilford when World B Free
played for the Quakers!!

You can still see some of the old TV tower positions as well. Agreed with others on here - it’s a great value if you’re near the course.
Living on the west side of Winston it’s too big of a haul for me to do consistently.
