Hard disagree, these have actually gone above the pods they did on different cities a few years ago
all the Sirianni hate getās me so JUICED up. Wouldnāt be surprised if Minshew gets a few snaps to close out. Hassan is coming for that gimp leg
Who has a PFF or Football Outsiders account?
I want to say Burrow is the highest graded PFF QB two years running? If thatās your thing. And I thought I heard or read he faced the toughest schedule this year per opposing defense DVOA. Which would inform the ever so slight dip in some of his numbers referenced above. But I might get fact checked on these thingsā¦
Go ahead and post your top-10 QBs! Interested where the great Jalen Hurts ranks among the people.
3rd in DVOA faced. AFC North represents 4 of the top 5. Tough sledding for that division beating up on each other. Allen/Buffalo were 11th for the direct comparison to Burrow/Bengals
I disagree with a few takes on these NFL episodes and then Tron mentions Steven Ruiz and I do a complete 180. Like Iād legitimately listen to an hour long podcast of a deep dive into that guys worst takes.
My top 5 right now, not heavily considering any previous seasons performance
Mahomes
sizeable gap
Hurts
Allen/Burrow (tie)
Goff
I think right after that you have Lawrence/Herbert/Lamar/Rodgers
- Mahomes
2A. Allen
2B. Burrow
-
Herbert
-
Rodgers
-
Lamar
-
Trevor
-
Hurts
-
Dak
-
Goff
I do think these rankings are extremely context dependent. Put the 20th place guy in a great situation (Niners, Eagles, etc) where they are surrounded by skill talent and a great line and they can produce like the 8th guy.
To me, the top 7 are potential teammate elevators. They have the ability to make the guys around them better. Below that, they can merely be cogs in a machine. Some very good cogs, particularly Hurts.
Vanilla Vick > Dak.
This is why we need to see peopleās lists!
- Mahomes
- Burrow
- Allen
- Herbert
- Lawrence
- Lamar
- Rodgers
- Goff
- Hurts
- Dak
I really want to put Fields over Dak as itās a future play ranking, but not with Bears current supporting cast. Would also rank Tua ahead of Dak if I could guarantee health.
Goff can flat out play. He had a fantastic season on a horrible team. People who arenāt at least putting him near the top 5 straight up didnāt watch him and thatās on them.
Re: Burrow v. Allen - I liked the @Pooshdaddy mental exercise of āWould X quarterback be an upgrade if he were placed in Y team?ā I think flipping Burrow and Allen wouldnāt change either team that much, which is good because I thought they were pretty dang equal before todayās pod. Their teams are constructed differently. Itās easy to forget that Allen threw a go ahead TD in Arrowhead with 0:17 remaining in their playoff game last year. The Bengals beat them in Buffalo, and Allen had a bad game, but Burrow didnāt set the world on fire during last seasonās playoff run either.
And donāt even get me started on how Lamar would do with any WRs of consequence. But performing within your environment is part of the deal.
Lionsā games were always on my second TV this year, I watched most, and he had a good year, does a great job not turning the ball over. Were we calling him top 5 in 2018 when he put up basically the same numbers?
Amon-Ra was/is a top 12 receiver, their offensive line was the 2nd best in pass protection and 7th overall, and by DVOA they had the 14th best rushing attack. The team was good! Now should Goff get some credit for playing with in that? Sure. But top 5 is ridiculous. Heās not a team elevator and needs everything around him to be successful, probably somewhere in the 9-13 range.
This is current with a bit of forward looking
- Mahomes
- Burrow
- Allen
- Herbert
- Trevor
- Lamar
- Hurts
- Rodgers
- Dak
- Goff
- Geno
- Tua
I like this. I think Hurts is in about the best situation possible so itās hard for me to see his skill. For instance, if he were on the Cardinals this year do we talk about him at all?
I suppose it is. I started looking at Rate+ a few years ago and maybe AV wasnāt around then.
Also an omission: Rodgers had a 149 Rate+ in 2011. I think heās the only guy with multiple 140 Rate+ seasons (140 in 2020).
Seasons with Rate+ >= 120
Manning 9
Brady 4
Rodgers 8
Brees 8
Brees was an absolute machine
I was yes. I would rank him 5th that year too. I donāt really like most QB stats because they are team dependent. He passes most of the eye tests. Smart QB with A+ arm strength and accuracy. Give him a good O-line and he will make all of the throws. Not throwing interceptions is really important for quarterbacks, we shouldnāt ignore that.
Also, I will add that Brady would be up there at 4 or 5 and kick him off this list if he wasnāt retiring. Honestly, I might swap Trevor into 5th in front of Goff. Heās not really a step above that next group, he just impressed me more this year.
- Mahomes
- Burrow
- Allen
- Herbert
- Lamar
- Lawrence
- Rodgers
- Hurts
- Goff
- Tua
I do not feel good about Tua at 10, but I donāt feel better about anyone else. I think 4-6 and 7-9 are pretty interchangeable. Also, could just be totally wrong about Rodgers. I really think his weapons were awful this year though and I hope he ends up playing in a good offense next year.
Deep breathā¦ok, letās do this. I make no secret that I despise the ownership of my team, think the coach is a robotic twit, and feel gross rooting for this guy. But Deshaun Watson belongs at 9 or 10. I donāt have the numbers, but I watched every snap he played this year. He was overall pretty awful. But in doses, you could see it. He made some throws where I just said āwowā. Granted, I was watching alone because my born and raised in the city of Cleveland wife refuses to watch him.
Iāve watched more shitty qb play in the last 24 years than you can imagine. I saw plays from Watson in 6 games Iād never seen. I will mea culpa the shit out of this take in a year if Iām wrong. And thereās like 40 percent of me thatāll be happy about it. Butā¦.just sayinā.
Shanny is a top 3 qb.
