Shout out Randall Stephenson getting $275,000 per month for life, lol AT&T, congrats investment bankers.

Shep loves him some Shep.

A few additional items:

  • Shep’s club, Bulls Bay, has a reputation for being an absolute sweepstakes. Seems like a good fit.
  • Can confirm the real estate situation in Charleston is absolute madness. Nobody here is from here at this point, it is rare to hear a southern accent.
  • The weather is just ridiculously wonderful here, people were saying it was a “terrible” winter and it was never worse than low 50s.
  • Harris Teeter >>>>>> Publix. Not even close. More logical store layout, lower prices, better locations, just all around fantastic.
  • Downtown is a ridiculous scene. Just absurd in every way. Don’t even know how to begin to describe it, like Vegas without casinos is the best I can do.
  • Restaurants are phenomenal, and not that expensive. Any kind of food you want.
  • There is a crazy amount of money in Charleston.

I just got back from my first visit and loved it.

I did instantly assume that there is no way I could afford anything remotely close and would need quite the commute to make it work if I could even find a job there to begin w ha.

Idk if we just timed it right but I felt like it was super easy to switch between the different areas we wanted to experience and nothing felt like more than a 10min drive. I liked being able to walk around doing King St. and the Market area, then go into the lower battery, and then hop in the car and be in Sullivan’s Island on a relatively empty beach in no time.
I grew up going to the spots along the Gulf, and it was so nice to park near the lighthouse, walk out onto the beach and not see a single high rise, nor 3,000 beach tents with people everywhere.

The coffee shops were pretty great, and we enjoyed trying new ones (to us) most mornings.
We enjoyed the food scene for sure, and I can’t wait to go back in non-covid times and experience more of that.

Great crossover appeal for me here as an NLU fan and celebrator of the entire Bravo catalog. Need to get back down to Charleston ASAP for some golf and mealing, only ever been for weddings (hard to believe I know).

I spent two years in Charleston. I desperately want to go back. I fucking love that place.

Shoutout King Street, and more specifically, O’Malley’s and Silver Dollar. Lotta money spent in those two establishments. Pour one out for O’Malley’s.

Would it be worthwhile just having 1 Trap Draw: Locations thread rather than having a new thread pop up every week that only gets about 20 comments?

Billy - what are the locals’ thoughts on Shep and the rest of the Southern Charm hangers ons? I personally rolled my eyes when I saw he was the guest this week. I get it, but wasn’t a big fan. As an attorney I fucking hate that I share a similar profession with Craig

THE KID IS BACK!

Having just listened to Shep’s book I thought the pod was a good listen. I would highly recommend his book, gives a little more detail to his life that the show just fails to touch on for all its characters, but for good reason as most people don’t care and just watch for the rich drama

Shep seems like a garden variety trust fund frat boy, probably a pretty fun guy to spend an afternoon with on the golf course but not somebody I’m carrying around a ton of respect for.

I’ve literally never heard anyone talk about that show, but I hang out with olds.

I went to school in Charleston with Kelly Tilghman’s little brother and that’s exactly the vibe Shep gives off.

Excited to give this a listen. Lived near Charleston while I did an internship at Kiawah after college.

Charleston highlights for me included Riverdogs game (boiled peanuts), Shem creek (Technically Mt. P), King Street, Shrimp and Grits (Shout out to Poogan’s Porch), Folly (Again, not Charleston proper), C of C campus. I have more but these are the immediate memories that come to mind.

Will add more to this thread after I listen to the podcast in full, but much of this money comes from people that live in other places and have bought second homes and such in Charleston.

Having been a CHS resident for 7 years, it is a great place to visit but not a great place to live. Many people there think they are really big fish, when in actuality they are just swimming in a small pond and don’t want to look outside that bubble.

Red’s on Shem Creek was the best. Poogan’s Porch was always a good spot too.

This isn’t doing anything for my longing to visit Charleston.

Also can’t forget Poe’s Tavern on Sullivan’s Island.

God I loved Red’s. Being from the Midwest, it was so nutty to see dolphins cruise by.

I don’t think I spent much time on Sullivan’s island. I did make it to the Windjammer a few times on Isle of Palms, the sand volley ball after several beverages was a combo.

I’m from southern Ontario, so it was a wild adjustment for me too. I got brought to Red’s on my recruiting trip and I was sold on going to school down there from that restaurant visit alone.

Windjammer was a blast. Should we plan a Refuge meetup in Charleston…
