Charlotte has no soul and thus will never be greater than Atlanta.
I’ve been gone for 4 years now, but I’m surprised the Dekalb Farmer’s Market didn’t warrant even a mention when discussing Atlanta grocery stores. Was my go to when I lived in Decatur.
Right, they dont have a Northside Tavern which is truly the beating heart of Atlanta.
I almost stopped my car when I heard @Tron call them “states”.
More of a Buford Highway Farmers Market gui
Putting the back in back catcher…
I don’t regret the error. Make a decision between “provinces” and “territories” and then we can chat.
I think I only ever went to the BHFM one time. Don’t really remember it. Maybe had a really good seafood selection?
Being introduced to the Dekalb Farmers Market was life changing. You can get any vegetable ever grown! And shark! And just about any other part of any animal you could ever want. It’s also a total madhouse midday on the weekends. 10/10, would recommend.
BuHi market is about the only place you can get head on wild shrimp.
Excellent for gumbo stock.
*cough Puerto Rico *cough
And we haven’t even touched on the District of Columbia - taxation without representation. A total disgrace.
Lame excuse, no pro hockey in the territories.
Buford Highway in general is one of the best parts of Atlanta. A++ food scene.
Spencer trying 10% too hard through the grocery store segment. Needs to hit a few solid shots and calm down. High hopes for the rest of the episode.
The list of guests who were not available was great. Shout out Ray Lewis and the missing white suit.
Around 2008-2010 or so, I was out in the old center field plaza at Turner pre-game. I’d just ordered some fries and was standing around waiting for them to cool down and for friends.
As one does, I got distracted watching the drum line and looked down to see somebody reaching in to the basket of fries I was holding. The fuck? I look up to see Otis Nixon shoving a handful of fries in his mouth.
Looking back, it might have been the only meal he ate that day.
“I’d been living in Florida before that, and it turns out Florida is terrible.”
Amen. Back on track.
Just finished the podcast. I grew up in West Georgia and have lived in Atlanta since 1991. My OTP Atlanta was completely unrepresented. I’m OK with that.
Kroger will never be able to touch publix because of the bogo. Stocking up on non-perishables bogo from publix and hitting sprouts for the produce is the way to go. I used to go to Trader Joe’s once a quarter for frozen snacks and great condiments but the parking situation in midtown has gotten to be too much.
As a recent transplant to the South I can confirm Publix is better than Kroger, but they both suck. People in the South have pretty obviously never experienced an actual good grocery store. Harris Teeter, Winn Dixie, Publix, Bi Lo, Piggly Wiggly, Food Lion - they all suck.
Good grocery stores have all the staples, are easily navigated, have products in intuitive places, move people through the checkout quickly, let you buy booze when you buy food, and most importantly, have freshly made prepared foods. In other words, they’re Wegmans.
Kroger bought Harris teeter a couple years ago and, in the Raleigh area, closed all the Krogers and even converted some Kroger stores to Harris Teeter. That’s admitting defeat. Kroger fucking stunk here too, but Publix > Harris Teeter.
Harris Teeter sucks ass. Overpriced and like Spencer said about Kroger on the pod, they’re always lacking simple things in the produce section like celery, brussel sprouts, good tomatoes, etc etc.
@BillyWalters Wegman’s is great, one just opened here in Raleigh down the street from us. They get a demerit for not letting you walk around with beer in the store like Lowe’s Foods does, and their store brand seltzer water is trash. HOWEVA their beer + wine selection, humongous meat section (heh) and pretty much everything else there is A+. I get the hype.
