Trap Draw: Atlanta

Looks like a cool spot. Might have to do a little side by side comparison since it’s right down the street from TDS Westside!

Don’t forget to order the cheese dip with chorizo!

The place right by my house is just called El Taco. They have a crappy website and are on Grubhub. La Gloria is pretty popular here but not as good and also have several locations. Los Barrios is also pretty good but farther away from me.

To your point though, my two favorite taco places from college are trucks that don’t have websites.

Yeah this is true. I’m probably not the top target for an authentic taco truck.

this los barrios?

la gloria looks real nice…

Yes they are all 3 brick and mortar places with good tacos.

I’m certain missing a bunch of great taco places here like the ones you describe. I still think there are a bunch of authentic Mexican places here with a website and good tacos.

The guy behind La Gloria is pretty interesting.

I’ll give my taco endorsement for Tacos La Villa. Mostly because it is a former Quizno’s and they put in little to no effort to change the decor.

Yeah I saw something on him when I googled la Gloria and he seemed pretty impressive, no doubt he’s putting out some really good food and I’d eat there in a heartbeat…

Like @DuckDuckHook mentioned I have a very narrow minded view on what’s authentic and admittedly think nicer places like that don’t really quality for an authentic experience I guess.

I want to be able to buy a phone card and Mexican spoon candy while I wait on my tacos. I want to get a bottle of jarritos out the cooler rather than a craft margarita made with some kind of infused tequila. I want someone’s grandma hand making the tortillas and shit, not a celebrated chef and restaurateur.

Other things that my brain has decided makes a place lose points…

Free chips and salsa before the meal and any menu with a Speedy Gonzales lunch special.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll eat at literally any kind of Mexican place, but some I hold in higher regards than others. I’ll try to do better and be more open minded.

lot to catch up on here.

BBQ: Fox Bros / Heirloom are tier 1. community Q is good too. personal soft spot for JD’s in acworth/woodstock as it is where I grew up and was our go-to dinner after high school golf matches. sweet auburn stinks. williamson bros is a glorified micro chain. no thanks.

tacos - taqueria del sol might be pound for pound one of my favorite places to go in atlanta. literally will never leave disappointed. they play the hits and do it right every time. but is it the best taco in atlanta? no. bone garden for sure. and the spicy pork burrito is the best. Never fallen for the nuevo laredo hype

and Ford Fry is the Faz of atlanta restaurants. is it good? yes. are you getting what you paid for? of course. but its just a little impersonal and style over substance.

If you want the phone card, candy, and jarritos, you my friend just need to go to the local Fiesta grocery store in Texas, you can get your cart tacos out front, sometimes in the store. Decent fare.

Well done sir.

Can attest. Heirloom BBQ is excellent.

couldn’t agree more. been twice. first time I might’ve overhyped it. left disappointed. second time was trying to be open minded. walked away still confused as to where the hype is coming from. it’s good mexican food. but way overpriced and a brutal wait time.

That’s exactly where you’d find me…anyone need a pinata?

Need to call in a correction regarding the Clairemont Lounge. The famous stripper there is named Blondie, not Goldie.
