SNA is also quite nice.
Breeze did not have times available for when I wanted to fly. Even if they did, on such a tight schedule, I would not have chosen them. I try to avoid the low budget airlines at all costs because of the non-flexible nature they most almost have when things do go wrong because of the limited number of flights.
However, I am booking a trip out of Columbus to John Wayne and saw Breeze had a non-stop, which is enticing, but again will likely not go that route because of lack of flexibility.
This comment sealed the deal. Appreciate the input everyone.
Bingo.
SNA is the best LA area airport and its not particularly close.
Enjoyed the San Juan airport yesterday. Very civilized and well run.
Until Spirit shuts it down, then it becomes a warzone!
40 minutes is tight and I don’t blame you for wanting a longer connection, but just as an FYI, golf clubs have the same level of risk of being mishandled as any other checked bag.
The industry standard for missed bags is about 4 per 1,000. Checking a bag is not as much of a risk as people like to think it is.
Um, that’s not known until day of flight, and even then, is subject to change even while in the air, so that’s not really a reliable metric.
Listen, it’s FINE. Just super boring when you’ve been through it a bunch of times. Overpriced (as are all airports, granted), always busy and loud AF. Only been through Changi once (maybe?) and it’ll be a nice change of pace. Especially with a three year old. Maybe i’ll stumble upon the live TrapDraw pod.
Flying Southwest today, Ts and Ps please.
Changi in Singapore is the greatest airport in the world, and it’s not particularly close. It’s got everything. I mean, I got my haircut at 3am on a Friday late connection to Jakarta.
The place has a movie theatre and indoor amusement park and like three salons, one dedicated to feet scrubbing in a fish tank.
The food is top notch (get Haianese Chicken Rice, a Singaporean specialty) almost anywhere in there. Like the worst food stall in Changi is the best you’ll find anywhere outside of Hong Kong.
Connecting through Nashville today and the food/bev options are excellent. Also excellent is the old guy I saw in a full Adidas track suit and a cowboy hat.
Flying Breeze for the first time this coming Sunday to CHS. Can’t pass up the direct flight from HPN (15 mins from my house)
I took it from LAX direct to CHS last year. Flight was delayed but plane was comfortable. No WiFi or any amenities really.
Agree - FlightAware is awesome for tracking flight path, estimated arrivals, and more.
I’m also a massive fan of Flighty. Feels like it’s designed for people who fly every week (consultants, flight attendants, etc.) but I love it for my once-every-six-weeks travel. Well worth the couple bucks for pro.
Question for the SW cattle call experts -
I have 2 upgraded boardings left on my RR card. Can I use those for 2 other people if I’m not on the reservation?
LAX peeps…my 7 year son and I’s flight is delayed 5 hours. Hertz wanted a small fortune to keep the car an extra few hours, so I just dropped that off. Headed to the airport to check luggage, but we’ll have an extra 4.5 hours at our disposal.
Any recommendations on things to do within a reasonable Uber/public transport distance?
My 9 year old and I enjoyed this place on a rainy Saturday in LA in January: https://californiasciencecenter.org/
You could also do much worse than taking an Uber to Santa Monica Pier and just walking around there.
There is also a TopGolf in El Segundo about 15 minutes away from the airport.
In-Out
That was stop 1 after arriving Monday. United Airlines is buying dinner anyways due to the delay. Found an escape room in Culver City to pass the time.
Positive spin: heavy thunderstorms were forecasted for scheduled ETA, so had we been on time, odds were good we would have to divert and that would suck more than being in LA an extra 5 hours.
