He also has multiple Michelin stars.
I have his cookbook, but haven’t really used it because the ingredients called out in a lot of spots aren’t readily available.
Going to have a 2.5 layover in o’hare.
What should I eat? I’m flying UA.
Berghoff is a solid choice
I would recommend hitting a Mexican grocery store like once a quarter. Most stuff you need is get shelf stable. You can also get it from Amazon. I have 2 of his cookbooks and use them a few times a month. Also has a good YouTube channel.
Torta.
Am I the only one who knew of him before his brother due to all the cooking shows my parents used to watch at night? Didn’t realize they had one at O’hare, but since they got rid of our United flight to Chicago, I don’t think I’ll be in O’hare much going forward (thankfully).
The JFK Jet Blue Terminal 5 experience can get absolutely bent. Place is a total disgrace. As a world economic power we can do much better.
@dgolfman62281 wondering if you’d have any insight you can share, what’s up with the remodel of the United club in DEN near B44? It feels like it has been closed for two years now, so then the club on the other side of B is never accepting one-time passes and I’m not sure if the new lounge further down in B is worth the one-time passes due to size/amenities. Seems like that remodel would be high priority for DEN being such a busy United hub
Not terribly knowledgeable on clubs. I have the United Explorer credit card, so I’ve used the club a handful of times, but fail to understand what’s so great about them.
Having said that, I know we’ve been in the process of remodeling all the clubs. I have no clue how long it’s supposed to take vs how long it’s actually taking. Could be a Polaris Club conversion (must have a seat in Polaris class to access, not just any type of club access).
DEN is a busy hub, but it’s mostly a domestic hub, with only 3 flights that have Polaris seat offerings (LHR, FRA, and NRT). So if it is a Polaris conversion, that would explain why it’s lower priority than other hubs.
Metal prison tray is a nice touch.
I think there’s a 99% invisible podcast about this, but essentially engineers for a long time built things to fit the average male height, which led to stuff like increased fatalities for women in car accidents, taller counters at stores, and other things ranging from inconvenient to dangerous.
Modern design has tried to be more inclusive, which is especially great for taller women and shorter men. So the airplane seat is just one of many benefits
Not sure if anyone else has seen the new Netflix doc on MH370, and regardless of what actually went down (no pun intended) with the aircraft: it is concerning af that there was never really any conclusion to what happened and where it went. Just a wild story thru and thru and a massively poor dissemination of information by authorities’ and media BAD BAD stuff! Feel like this one could be a TD deep dive someday
So browsing through here again and wanted to throw around some of my thoughts on various topics.
First, as far as the loving airports/flying it is love for me. There are a few reasons but mainly the pure excitement about enjoying the technological marvel\ that is air travel. I think a lot of people forget just how insane it is that we can jump in a metal tube and travels thousands of miles in hours. Previously you need to take a boat that would take months. Even modern cruises take a week from NYC to London. Second, the excitement of traveling for the pure enjoyment of not being at work. Now, this may just be me because I sit at a desk all day working and don’t do any travel related to my job. I get that it can be drag for those who do though. Finally, I love the people watching and LOATH driving and traffic. If I can fly, I would do that 9 out of 10 times. My family gets on me for flying from Newark, NJ to Richmond, VA or to DC. I will take a 45min to 1 hour flight over 4+ hours of driving and traffic. I like being able to turn my brain off, watch something on my iPad than focus on traffic and driving.
This also brings me to the next point, I always get on the plane ASAP for the overhead space. I’m a big dude so I get the cramped arguments but I only check a bag when absolutely necessary. If its golf travel, that gets checked, but all my clothes and other belongings are carry-on only. Hell, I did 2 weeks in Greece for my honeymoon and only had to check a bag because my wife thought she needed 20 different outfits.
Already planning our luggage around this very thing for my honeymoon in June lol
Fiance already has three outfits for our wedding day alone…
Oh yeah. Think my wife did 4 changes day of the wedding. Which is funny because she got up at like 5am for hair/makeup and I woke up around 9am, get my tux on with the groomsmen, and then didn’t change until taking it off to pass out in the hotel.
Flying southwest for first time in a few years today. Does the app not show the incoming flight? Trying to see how I’m looking for on time departure.
We needed the rest man, that day was a MARATHON.
