No specific rec for EWR, but the new terminal blew me away. After years of that place being a hellscape, I was shocked to see how nice the new terminal is
Frontera tortas are s tier airport food.
Publican is also solid.
Get Chicago mix popcorn from Garretts before you leave as well.
This was actually a 24 hour delayed flight. I was connecting in Newark and the plane I was connecting on got hit by lightning on the approach. It was not able to fly to Barcelona so I had to wait a day to leave. I can’t remember if I got moved onto the same flight the next day or if they got a new plane but, in either case, we were exactly one day late.
I hate to “hazard” a guess at what this is…
Poop. Likely poop. It’s always poop.
Flew into Mexico City this morning and god what a strange airport, definitely crammed into the middle of the city, the approach is absolutely insane coming in. It’s new in some places but totally unfinished in others
Eugh, so much to say here. They were building a new, larger airport to accommodate the number of flights coming in and flying out of CDMX. The idiot AMLO, the now outgoing president, decided to cancel the project early into his presidency. It was eventually finished and it’s technically open but I don’t think a lot of airlines are using it because the FAA assigned it a Category 2 safety rating.
To add to that, airports are never crammed into the middle of a city. Airports always start out away from the city in a rural area and the city grows around it.
Yikes.
Throughout the remainder of the fight, Durning “continued to harass” the family, staring the girl down as he continued to visibility touch himself, says the suit. He was also allowed to roam around the cabin, enabling him to continue to approach and touch his genitals in front of Z.B.
Heard about that, apparently they’ve pushed all cargo operations over there which helps a bit. Ideally if they could get a setup like NYC has with LGA/JFK or Tokyo with HND/NRT that would be nice. Current airport could handle domestic flights and some big international flights, and everything else is at the new airport. Being close to the city does rule though
Unless if you are SAN lol
The airport that was canceled is different from the new airport that is now in use. AMLO canceled the Texcoco airport and replaced it with a conversion of the Santa Lucia Air Force base.
The converted Air Force base is now known as Felipe Angeles International Airport with the IATA airport code of NLU.
WSJ: Delta CEO Says CrowdStrike Tech Outage Cost It $500 Million
The airline canceled thousands of flights over several days in July

Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Ed Bastian said the carrier took a $500 million hit from the CrowdStrike technology outage that hurt its operations.
With more than 5,000 flight cancellations over several days, Delta faced deeper disruption and took days longer than rivals to get back on track after the outage knocked key systems offline. The U.S. Department of Transportation is investigating how the airline handled the disruption and its customer response.
Delta has hired prominent litigator David Boies, chairman of the firm Boies Schiller Flexner, and notified CrowdStrike and Microsoft to prepare for litigation.
“We have no choice,” Bastian said on CNBC Wednesday. “Between not just the loss of revenue, but the tens of millions of dollars per day in compensation and hotels. We did everything we could to take care of our customers over that time.”
Airline snafus can be costly. Southwest Airlines estimated that its late 2022 meltdown after a brutal winter storm, when it canceled about 16,700 flights over roughly 10 days, cost it over $1 billion in lost revenue and compensation payments to passengers.
The scale of disruption was uncharacteristic for Delta, which prides itself on running a punctual and reliable operation and looks to appeal to premium customers. Delta has said its crew-tracking system was hopelessly backlogged after the hourslong outage—unable to catch up and pair pilots and flight attendants with flights.
Bastian said Wednesday that Delta was heavily exposed to Microsoft and CrowdStrike—the carrier had 40,000 servers that had to be manually reset, he said.
“You can’t come into a mission-critical, 24/7 operation and tell us you have a bug. It doesn’t work,” he said.
Now the airline is reconsidering technology.
“How do you rethink the fortification? We thought we had the best,” Bastian said.
One world gang: I fly a lot of different airlines all the time and this means I don’t have status with any of them. But many are OneWorld.
What airline should I concentrate my OneWorld membership points / ID number in for all these flights, to most rapidly ascend to Sapphire or Emerald status? Considering Alaska, BA, JAL, Qatar and Qantas but open to suggestions. Having access to AA lounges would be great considering my home base is DCA, but getting status with them just off their own system isn’t viable for me unfortunately.
Also - Alaska Airlines gang, taking my first flight with them in a week and a half. What should I know, aside from don’t sit in the exit row?
Thanks in advance!
What is worse? That Bastian comes across as tone deaf, arrogant and without even an iota of corporate ownership/responsibility, or that he knows all of the above and doesn’t give a rat’s ass because he understands that none of Delta’s actual customers can affect his position in any way whatsoever?
Alaska is the balls. Flying from SMF I’ve always enjoyed good service to SEA. Quality jets and great service. Free beer (one glass) is a nice touch. Extra bonus that your AA status applies to Alaska
As a loyal AA flyer, I love the OneWorld benefits. Personally, from SMF American is a great airline. I end up connecting via DFW 60% of the time and PHX 30% of the time with some other random stops in Philly or Charlotte.
The big game changer for me has been a mix of in seat miles and the American credit card. Lots of LPs gained that way and I’m on year 2 of Executive Platinum / OneWorld Emerald. Upgrade percentage is generally over 80% across a year of flying 1-3x per month.
I’m not sure if I answered any of your qqs but happy to share my experiences
Nice perk of having a great airport that’s not too big. AC Signature lounge at YVR rocks. Hawksworth food in it is a delight and a great bar.
Thanks a ton, that’s great to hear. Looking forward to the Alaska flight. There’s also a United nonstop on the same route but I’m thinking Alaska is the way to go.
I’m locked in for the Amex platinum for the long haul. I fly AA probably 40-50% of the time and it’s just not quite enough to notch status of any kind with them, so I’m thinking if I can find another OneWorld airline on which 20-30 AA flight segments will notch me their equivalent of Ruby or Sapphire OneWorld status, I will start using that program to do it.
More seasoned travelers than me:
If I paid for an upgrade on a flight and then decided to change that flight, am I just shit out of luck and eating that cost? I don’t see any way to get it onto the changed flight in the app. On United
