Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

I was delayed last night because of a medical issue. Thankfully person seemed to be conscious the whole time and it wasn’t super impactful since it all happened while we were parked at the gate.

i saw @MerchCzar with a provocative pillow for a flight in aus.

begs the question – what’s the best pillow for a redeye? i’m an aisle seat currently and will plan to stay that way if i can get a good pillow.

Overweight landing. Aircraft have max landing weights that cannot be planned to exceed. Obviously, in an emergency flights can land over weight, but maintenance needs to do inspections to make sure critical systems weren’t impacted.

No medical emergency today but I watched a guy drop his cookie bar thing out of the food service it rolled across the aisle onto a guys foot and he ate it without one second of thought. He was a very strange person the entire flight.

We talking Biscoff or something even more bougie?

No it was a brookie thing. I mean it makes it a little more justifiable but I’ve never been that hungry lol

Ditto that Ubers are generally pretty available in Dublin, you’ll be fine. If the weather is nice, you could consider going to Houth instead of downtown. Just FYI tho it’s usually mobbed on weekends if the sun is out so getting a table at a restaurant there as a walk-in could be tough.

Modern airlines to course architects?

Delta is The Faz.

I’m struggling to find a comp for my city of Kansas City going from “universally hated and awful” to “best midsize airport in the country” like it has with the new airport. the new KCi is just so damn good and convenient … except when you’re picking people up

the layout of the old one made the locals think that waiting at the curb for people who are arriving was acceptable. now with one arrivals area, it’s a cluster. it’s not the airport’s fault. it’s the people who live here.

Taking habits of locals into account is an essential task in urban design. It’s hard to change behavior with design elements unless you absolutely force it as a feature of the design itself.

I’d agree with that. and I’d also say that it’s the administration/payroll/etc enforcement’s fault

my wife travels frequently for work, and I went to pick her up on a Thursday between Thanksgiving and New Year’s and got chastised by a security/traffic enforcement officer for parking at the curb 15 seconds before she was at the car. we did the whole “hey where are you, ok I’m parking here there’s an open spot see you soon” thing.

but then the last three times I’ve picked her up from the airport, there’s been no one enforcing at a level anywhere close to that as people just hang out at the curb and then back up the traffic to the airport a quarter mile or so. some consistency would go a long way.

ETA: The airport has been very good at being on the local news multiple times saying “this is how you should pick people up, please use the cell lot, you can’t park at the curb.” however, I don’t think they’ve backed it up well with the people actually enforcing the rules.

The very end when Andy asked if TC brings shampoo on the plane only for him to respond that he doesn’t have hair made me laugh out loud. Great episode

My airport is like this too. No enforcement.

Get the tow trucks going. Write tickets.

Why does Tron hate Orlando so much?

I’ve honestly never heard anyone like Orlando……

Yeah definitely get the Orlando hate, living here I consider it two different cities and avoid the parks/i-drive area at all cost.

Just curious if he’s ever shared his specific origin story of Orlando hatred.

I think everyone has the same specific origin story. It’s being surrounded by annoying Americans at that fucking dumpster fire of an airport.

First off wanted to say the new ep was great, Andy should be a more regular TD guest!

And secondly a brief trip report to flame Alaska Airlines. Outbound couldn’t have been smoother, direct SAN-KOA was a delight. This route only has one flight each way per day. We booked an early afternoon departure, this was updated to a redeye a couple months before the trip. We decide to roll with it. About 1.5 hours before departure the flight gets cancelled due to “issues with crew travel”, chaos ensues at the tiny KOA airport. There were only two employees to set up accommodations for the entire full flight. They gave taxi vouchers that could only be used with one taxi stand and they were completely overwhelmed. It was a total mismanagement of the situation and this cab company was not equipped to handle it. Luckily we were near the front of the line since we sprung into action as soon as the flight was cancelled but some people waited almost 3 hours to get to the hotel, 1AM at this point. Oh and they gave everyone $48 for food, in a place where most meals are $25 on the kids menu.

I get that issues with the crew happen and it is hard to get backups somewhere remote but why wait until that evening when everyone had checked out of their accommodations, returned rental cars, and driven to the airport vs hours earlier and avoid the whole mess?? Bad stuff from the one world people. I’ll connect on UAL next time for sure.
