Joshua Dean, a former quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems and one of the first whistleblowers to allege Spirit leadership had ignored manufacturing defects on the 737 MAX, died Tuesday morning after a struggle with a sudden, fast-spreading infection.

Known as Josh, Dean lived in Wichita, Kan., where Spirit is based. He was 45, had been in good health and was noted for having a healthy lifestyle.

This shit is not funny at all. What the fuck?!?

Making a note not to make a move to a Boeing supplier as a Quality professional

Yeah, but they’re going to be hiring. Might be worth it.

“ Dean was represented by a law firm in South Carolina that also represented Boeing whistleblower John “Mitch” Barnett.

Barnett was found dead in an apparent suicide in March. He was in the midst of giving depositions alleging Boeing retaliated against him for complaints about quality lapses when he was found dead from a gunshot wound in Charleston, S.C., where Boeing has its 787 manufacturing facility.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office reported Barnett’s death appeared to be “from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” Almost two months later, the police investigation into his death is still ongoing.

Holy shit

Has anyone ever had a long layover Dublin? We are going to Europe and will have a 7-hour layover in Dublin between our flight from the US and our connecting flight within Europe. We shouldn’t have any bags with us beyond carry-on bags. On the other hand, we’ll have a 4 and 8 year old. If we leave the airport, it will be all taxis and not buses. The goal would be to keep us all awake before our connecting flight, but any sights we see would be great too.

The nice thing about Dublin (at least when I was there some years ago) were they had hop-on/hop-off busses going by all of the main tourist stuff.

So, getting to and from the airport on a layover notwithstanding, it’s a decent way to easily see the main landmarks at your own pace.

All the appeal of DUB as an airport is the shopping/restaurant area which is post security but pre-US preclearance customs in the fancy international terminal. 7 hours is plenty of time to go into the city (only like a 25-30 min taxi ride) and see whatever you want to see for a few hours, and I highly recommend you do.

This is on the way to Europe, so I don’t think we’ll be able to go to the pre-clearance area anyway.

That taxi ride and timing seems right to me, based on what I can find. The play is probably to head to the city center, grab a good lunch and a pint of Guiness and then walk around for a bit before going back to the airport. My wife mentioned a castle near the airport, so that’s an option, too, I guess. I was concerned about lack of taxis back with that.

When we were there 18 months ago Uber was a great option. We are past the stage of traveling with littles, but many of the pubs are kid friendly. Fish and chips, seafood chowder that is served with soda bread, and a Guinness is the play.

Crazy morning: my flight to Atlanta landed in Lubbock, TX for a medical emergency - lady in the seat behind me. I don’t know the full details and never looked at her but people said she was blue and the doctors that volunteered on board were giving her chest compressions after that had her laying in the aisle. Medics apparently got a pulse and the doctors were crying they were so happy.

I was once on a medical diversion. Was flying ORD-TUS, and the guy across the aisle from me was slipping in and out of consciousness. There was an EMT on board who assisted and provided oxygen. I don’t know if Medlink was involved (they are a company who has a staff of doctors and nurses with specialities in common aviation conditions and radio training who can provide inflight medical advice), but the decision was made to divert to Wichita. I’ve been on the telephone end of those situations over a hundred times but it was surreal watching the process play out right in front of me. I think we were on the ground about 50 minutes, luckily the crew did not time out.

We were on the ground for over 2 hours. Inspection required because of amount of fuel on the plane. Sitting in ATL at one flew south until my connection. Missed the one earlier obviously.

Apparently only time Delta will go to LBB is a medical
emergency. I dread having to hop on American (generally) for work trips there

I had a medical diversion on a DEN-LHR flight where we were over Canada before we turned around to land at ORD. Barely made the 6 hour connection we had. I don’t know how the crew didn’t time out, but I’m not complaining.
