My better half is a FA for Delta and had someone lose their mind yesterday. From what she told me, someone had tried to bring 3 large carry-on bags on the plane, and 1) she was one of the last to board and 2) two of the three bags were considered too big to be carry-ons.
So the gate agent tags the bags to be checked at the gate, and the lady got to the end of the jet bridge and demanded all three bags be on the plane. Thus the Delta folks got involved, which then led to the TSA and Atlanta PD to take her off the plane. Fun stuff! Ended up delaying the flight 2 hours because they had to unload the bags off the plane to get this lady’s checked bag off.

On my last flight there was a college age student who tried bringing on an overstuffed, large carry-on + what could only be described as a heavy duty, small, moving box wrapped with so much tape it lost it’s boxy-ness. It was SW, so the flight attendants made an effort to get it into an overhead bin before being forced to tag it. Oh, and did I mention she was the very last person to board because they were calling her name? So, yeah…get what you paid for and what not

My last flight a frail older lady traveling by herself had an emergency row seat and couldn’t lift her carryon into the overhead. The FAs determined that if she can’t lift her bag how could she be fit enough to sit in the emergency row. She refused to change her seat for 90 minutes and multiple convos with the airline people. She finally caved when it appeared the plane might riot and throw her out said emergency door. Also should be arrested and charged as a domestic terrorist and never be allowed on an airplane again. Lifetime ban!

I have had far too many old people drop bags on my head or shoulder. Being able to lift the bag over your head should be enforced by a show of strength at the gate.
