Exactly. Banish all of these people to whatever is left of the Greyhound Bus system. Let them all be miserable together.
Just returned from Vegas yesterday and LAS is always such an interesting cross section of people. The old retired couples, bachelor/bachelorette parties violently hungover and still drunk, and all the in between. It is surprising the airport isn’t better considering how much money moves through the area yearly. The shuttle between terminals to get to D gates isn’t the best but seen worse. AMEX lounge near D gates isn’t too bad but crowded constantly. Didn’t check out the United Club.
Vegas Amex lounge is a perfect example of the deterioration of lounges generally. When it opened it was pretty sick, great hot food, not crowded, instant cocktail service, a phenomenal experience. Now there is always a massive line, it’s overcrowded, the food has gone downhill and I usually would rather just go to the gate.
Maybe out one of those carnival hammer and bell things. Gotta hit the top to be able to use the overhead bins.
LAS is merely 15 minute from most strip hotels
you can be at your gate if not checking a bag with Precheck in 30 minutes from your hotel
no one is worried about lounges at LAS, not much demand
Positive note about airports-
I roll up to Firkin and Fox pub at IAD for English breakfast. Bar is full of folks drinking at 0800.
No one has a clue what time it is.
An airport is definitely one of the places where it’s never even really judged to be drinking at any hour of the day. You never know what timezone anyone is on, so it’s a hilarious scene.
Have to fly on short notice tomorrow. Heading to JAC. Love the flight in there. Due to the short notice I will be flying Delta SNA->SLC->JAC. Looking forward to experiencing all the hype surrounding Delta in the Refuge. First leg is on a A220-300. Never flown on the A220.
Delta is basically just a normal airline. Which is sadly super exceptional in 2023.
Hats off to the renovated MSY. Much better. United lounge was excellent too.
The A220 is great, and a huge improvement from the 717s for Delta. The windows are massive for the size of the plane, so if you’re sitting near a window, the views are excellent. The IFE on Delta’s 220 fleet is quite good also.
Going to have to start saving up points to fly on these new planes from Air New Zealand
Ok so I just checked in for my flight home with Delta and I have to share that Jackson Hole, WY (JAC) is the best non-major airport in the country. It’s not close either. I love the Palm Springs airport but it doesn’t hit like this.
I just went through check-in and security (w/o tsa pre) and there were ZERO people. A first in 40+ years of flying. I’m now sitting at a bar that looks like something out of NYC looking at the Grand Tetons in a terminal that looks like a high end mountain lodge with wood ceilings. You have to see it to understand.
It’s a 9.9/10 for the size and the flight in and out is some of the most scenic take-offs and approaches you can experience. I highly recommend flying here if you can. Jackson/Wilson, WY area is a national treasure.
With the number of billionaires that probably make use of their private strips and the number of multi millionaires that go through JAC proper, I’m somehow not surprised.
The airport is really nice. The area is really scenic. But I was turned off by the gross income inequality out there. Just my opinion.
I went through security in Jackson hole with no ID. Lost my wallet about an hour before my flight and immediately thought I was screwed. At minimum I thought I’d miss my flight….they told me not to panic and got me through security in like 30 min. For this I will always say good things about that airport lol. On a side note, Jackson hole is a special place. I went to snowboard and I haven’t stopped thinking about going back since the day I left.
Did you get a mimosa when you got there and walked into the airport?? We did and that shit blew my mind.
I did not but I will definitely do that next time.
They were handing them out for free right when we walked in! Just an airport employee with a tray of mimosas while you wait for your bags.
It is certainly a playground for the 0.1%. They have some of the highest property values in the country and a massive affordability problem for the working class people in the area. But I see gross income inequality all across America. So for me, singling out the Jackson Hole area is like pointing a finger at one person in a crowd of similar people.
Are you wrong? No. But I could say the same thing about hundreds of other areas. None of that strips away the raw, natural beauty of the area for me.
