Trap Draw: 90’s Action Movies

MacGruber makes me want an NA Miata.

I’ll own the Broken Arrow stuff - should have lobbied much harder for its inclusion. Totally on me. I think we steered too much into Ronin and veered too far away from Broken Arrow, when the qualifications we laid out probably demanded the opposite.

Broken Arrow always brings me back.

When the movie came out I was dating a Air Force Security Cop whose job it was to guard nuke silo sites in BFE North Dakota. I stumbled upon some of her manuals one day and was delighted to find out that “broken arrow” was an actual term.

It happens! If you guys ever do a follow up, I kept thinking it would fun to explore the best of all the action movies in some categories. You guys kinda got into it with locations.

Best Villian
Best location/setting
Best Villian motive
Best plot hole
Beat Villian death - blown up, thrown off a cliff, etc
Best Villian weapon - Nukes, twin gold pistols
Best use of novelty vehicles - Trains, Helicopters, trollys, boats, etc

Heat should top this list for a multitude of reasons.
Point Break (not the remake) isn’t bad.
Clear and Present Danger
Hunt For Red October
Speed

Carla was the prom queen. This was my first R movie too, I remember watching it in theaters. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

I liked the pod for sure. I’d be happy to listen to another one where you guys expand the constraints a little to add more. Depending on what you guys like.

I’m all for movie discussions in general and I think the Trap Draw has been a great place to sprinkle these in. Fun listening and I appreciated the shoutout to the Rewatchables as that is one of my favorite pods.

Watched Sudden Death just now with JCVD and I gotta say I knew it was a 90’s film from listening to this pod.

@Tron and @MerchCzar, where does Sudden Death fall in your rankings or is it just shite?

Somehow I don’t think I’ve ever seen this flick. Need to change that asap.

Give me the following as the best 90s action movies

Lethal Weapon 3 - Would have said the original, but that was made in 1987.
Payback
Enemy of the State - GREAT Rewatchables pod. Don’t know if this qualifies as an action movie, more of a thriller. But oh well.
Point Break
Galaxy Quest

Vaya Con Dios

I’ve seen it although it’s been a long while. It’s pretty amazing. I’m a huge Van Damme guy but by that time he had begun to jump the shark. The best part is when he actually plays goalie in the game.

Sudden Death is great. Certainly cheesy, but an awesome setting for an action film. Powers Booth took his villain vibe to Deadwood.
